Viva, no longer a fan
John,I get your point that Viva is not servicing products unless they were purchased from authorized Viva dealers. I'm not surprised, as other European manufacturers have done the same. So, it's shameful but not surprising. I read your post a few ...
High Quality Universal Player??
I have used my Oppo 105D for a couple of years now. In addition to the audiophile-quality sound, it loads almost as soon as you insert the disc. I have found that many universal players, particularly Blu-ray players, are notoriously slow (and I me...
Thiel 7.2 or Revel Studios
"Revel is junk compared to Thiel."Now, wasn't that a stupid thing to say!
Are there headphones that image in front of you rather than in your head?
tbg,While you're at RMAF, listen to the Stax headphones through Blue Hawaii or Woo Audio WES headphone amplifiers. You will be amazed, and I think the question of whether the drivers are in front or on the sides will seem less important. Just my o...
Soundtracks that you listen all the way through and it's all great.
The Cat Stevens soundtrack from "Harold and Maude." If only they had made one. Most songs are available on "Greatest Hits," and of course, on the boxed set. I really liked "If You Want To Sing Out...Sing Out."
speaker and interconnects, how nice do I need
In any case, buy used cables here or on some other website. Cables are like new cars. Their value drops dramatically once they are used.
What is going on? No-one buys good stuff priced right.
minorl,The experience I described in my post doesn't really fit your scenario. The price being asked seemed reasonable, and I was willing to buy. I just wanted to be sure that the piece wasn't damaged in some way as the price seemed very reasonabl...

There is a lot of great equipment available for sale here on Audiogon (as opposed to Cr**g**st), and some of it is expensive, even very expensive, but no one is forced to buy anything. The summer, notwithstanding, there is a button called "Make Of...
How many will listen to tape and vinyl in the next century?
I'll still be listening to cassettes on my Nakamichi cassette decks (RX-505, ZX-9) in 2100, as long as Willy Hermann is still around to service them
Are there headphones that image in front of you rather than in your head?
One further thought. While headphones don't make you feel that you are in the room during a performance, they do make you feel like you are sitting in the sound engineer's seat during the mix down. And really, how bad is that?
Are there headphones that image in front of you rather than in your head?
Headphones will certainly give you the "just me" experience, and they are indispensable for listening late at night without disturbing anyone else. It's hard to say if they can image inside your head to recreate the illusion of a live event formed...

bdp24,I also own a pair of Stax Lambda Signatures that I drive with a Stax SRM- T1S. They get less use now as I'm trying to break in my 009's. I don't think you can beat Stax for headphone sound. Obviously, that's just my opinion (formed over the ...

For fun, take a look at a vintage pair of AKG 1000 headphones. They are difficult to find these days and the sellers seem to think they are worth their weight in gold.
Schitt Audio Still in business???
Too bad! If I ever go into the business of manufacturing audio equipment, I'll have to avoid using the household names Yggy, Gungnir and Wyrd. They're already in use by Shiit. You can't make this stuff up!
Are there headphones that image in front of you rather than in your head?
Stax Lambda Pro headphones position the drivers on the left and right, just like standard headphones. bdp24 was referring to the Stax Sigma phones that position the drivers perpendicular to the head, requiring a large bulky earcup. The sound was a...
