MSB Passive Pre Vs. Placette Passive About two and a half years ago I attempted to contact MSB by phone and e-mail. I left two voice mail messages and two e-mails - received no response from them whatsoever. I ended up buying a DAC from another company who answers their phone and e-m...
Best bookshelf speaker reccomendations? I also vote for Spendor or Harbeth since you use SS electronics. Some of the above mentioned speakers are on the lean side if things (JM Lab, Revel, Dynaudio) and are tricky to make musical w/ transistor based amplification.
Round 2: Tubes amps, no ss discussion Just had an interesting discussion with someone in St Louis belonging to an audio internet DIY club. Someone claims to have taken apart a 47 Labs amp to find cheap parts. The group was able to price out these parts and found the retail cost of the...
'semi-budget' amps for Platinum Audio Solos Don't go cheap on the pre-amp. Try a passive (check with manuf. of your amp and CDP for imp. matching) and if this doesn't work, buy the best pre-amp you can afford. If you need time to save for a good one, pick up a used Creek OBH12 (list $350) w...
SET - Limitations from Amp, Speaker Match, Both? You need at least 92db efficient and a very stable impedance before trying 2A3s. Anything else and cymbals will sound more like they are made out of plastic than metal. This is a good indicator of serious lack of power. As regards 45s, you need 96...
'semi-budget' amps for Platinum Audio Solos I wouldn't say the Solos offer "astounding full range sound" as this would be "astounding" hyperbole. What, then, to say of their Duos and Trios which double and triple the number of woofers? However, they do provide bass extension far in excess o...
RM7si-II or Revel M20 or .....need help please I have ProAc 2.5s which are rear ported and in my 11 x 13.5 room. The bass was awful for the first 40-50 hours and didn't get good until over 100 hours. It then got real good with amp, pre-amp, and CD upgrades. I'm able to keep the rear cabinet si...
Dylan SACD-good news. Anybody else think Dark Side of the Moon, beause of all the radio overplay and audiophile hype, just sounds silly nowadays?
A strange thing happened on the way to... I've owned two pairs of Maggies, neither with any iteration of the ribbon tweeter. However, I've spent quite some time in a Maggie dealer listening to various new and newer versions. They do have a distinct sound that many fall in love with. I've ...
Dylan SACD-good news. Give me a break!! Now I get to buy these damn discs for a third time (fourth if you count LPs 30 yrs ago)? Didn't Sony, just within the last 3-4 yrs, release all of these as Remastered Superbit Mapping treasures? Didn't I buy most of them after bu...
Let's talk tube amps - no ss discussion Are you talking new or used or both ($2500.00-3500.00)?I bought my AitTight 300B used in that range and it sounds superb with both passive and active pre-amps.
Where is Conrad-Johnson heading? How many tube amps should C-J have? How big is this market, anyway?
Aerial 7bs or Proac Response 2.5? I also love my 2.5s. I took a year to buy them after bringing 11 different speakers into my home for auditions. I've not heard any ARC/2.5 combos but know a couple people who have. They say it's as if the 2.5 was designed for ARC. I, however, driv...
Upgrade from Spica TC-60's. I second the vote for REL subwoofer, Srata III. I set mine up 6 months ago, took a couple of hours to 'dial' in, have only made three or four adjustments since. The Spica TC60 is a music lover's speaker - keep them.
Joule Electra LA 150 Does the LA150 have remote control? What tubes does it use? What does it sell for and can anyone recommend a good dealer? Thanks, people. |
