Bi-amping speakers - Vertical or Horizontal Ed...I'm not sure I understand how timing errors could occur if, say, I use a 25-35wt P/P or SET amp on the woofers and a 2-8wt SET on the tweeters. Does it matter that I am listening pretty much in the nearfield, or are you not talking about acou...
Jazz Recommendations As regards guitarists, don't forget Kenny Burrell!
Subwoofer Blending Thanks for all the input; exactly what I needed. I'm now thinking about bi-amping (one amp for tweeters and another for woofers) as the 2.5s have damn good bass if given enough power. Think I'll start another thread for bi-amping advice. Thanks ag...

What companies, out of Business, did you LOVE??? I have to second the Spica comment. I bought the first pair of TC50s to be shipped to Michigan in 1983. They are still my fondest audio memory, even more so than my first tube purchase - conrad-johnson PV3. There was indeed something magical about...
Michigan - Any Interest? Hey, fellow Michiganians (Michiganderans?)! I live in Livonia (10 miles West of Detroit)and have an SET driving (so to speak) Proac 2.5s. I need help with understanding how to blend in a subwoofer. Or should I buy another used SET and bi-amp? My s...
How to get more air in the speakers While reading this I'm sitting listening to Philly Joe Jones on a Hank Mobley Blue Note 24bit CD. Using an Air Tight 300B amp, passive pre-amp, Perp Tech digital stuff (both pcs), and Proac 2.5s. As a former drummer, I'm happy with the cymbal soun...
Best speaker with tubes? I have used my Proac Response 2.5s (they may not be in production anymore) with five different tube amps and they worked great with them all. I've heard the new Cary V12 is quite revealing so beware of speakers with any trace of hardness, lack of ...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE I've owned Proac Response 2.4s for 4 1/2 years and have no plans of replacing them. They've worked with every amp I've tried and have that inexpressable "musicality" that make an audio component classic. I'm using an SET amp now and I'm sure it's ...
Best match with Proac Response Series I just auditoned an Audio Electronics Super Amp Sig. DJH edition with my 2.5s and it makes great music. Proper extension at the freq. extremes, wonderful soundstaging, and lots of natural instrumental color. In my opinion, a terrific amp for $2,00...
recommended speakers for SET amp? I am currently auditioning a paid of Zen Sig. mono-blocks and am mightily impressed with not only the sound but the build quality and customer support from Steve and everyone else at Decaware. I think you are being a bit generous with the 5wt rati...
Passive Preamp Problem I've been using an OBH-12 for three years (maybe longer?) and have used it with the following amps - Mesa Baron, Cary 572s and 2Abs, Transcendent Sound OTL T8, and now have an Audio Electronics Supply Super Amp Sig., DJH edition. It's worked great...
Art Audio Jota - Tube Modifications Khaki - Any problems with the power tubes of your Diavolo? I'm considering an Art Audio amp but have heard that the power tubes tend to be very microphonic and "sing along" with the music. How does your Diavolo compare to other SETs such as Cary d...
Barebone 2A3 or SET Amp and speaker Paul - Are you asking for an SET AND speaker that costs less than 1k together? Try Antique Audio, I've seen a couple of their used 2A3s on Audiogon for 700-750.00. That leaves you a whole 249-299.00 for speakers! Good luck!
Bi-amp Integration Tim - I bi-amped my Proac 2.5s with a 25wt OTL on the woofers and a 3.5wt 2A3 SET on the tweeters. I have no idea why it worked but the sound was great. Remember, those woofers require a lot more current and drive than the tweeters. Alas, I finall... |
