Subwoofer speed is in the room, not the box
@avanti1960 got it right…. and building an inert cabinet for those massive low THD but high IMD woofers is not trivial…. but then cabinet movement = trash = output = “ efficiency “….. funny how systems engineering just creeps in…..

Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
OP - agree… i wouldn’t and didn’t butcher my SOTA to make that work. IF you dont have the needed TP tool to locate the arm, let me know and i can get that to you.  What cartridge? i’ve run a few on the TP but always interested in others impressio...
Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
it does not fit in the well without trimming the upper deck…Sota and Triplaner owner…The wire routing is a lesser issue but may hinder proper movement of tge spring suspension… about 75% of the SOTA magic….
Bananas rule, spades drool. End of discussion.
except da bomb sounds worse than a gas tight low mass spade with a quality binding post, better yet ring terminals….
A phono preamp with equalization selector
Crusty patina……like most of the posters….myself included….

One should not confuse my argument as support for anything less than a systems engineering approach to the sub / room problem. The solutions i mention in a previous post include MUCH more than 3 x 8” drivers in a domestically attractive 90# box….....

Making a large diameter stiff structure is so easy…. i listen to two vastly different engineering solutions to the same problem…. 3 x 8” vs a push pull titanium honecomb bespoke Scanspeak driver…. like i said prove that big 15” paper cone stays in...
Some cartridge recommendations
I’m not making a recommendation other than i sure as S admire you for taking this turntable on from a 92 year old obvious music lover….i wish the same…. bless you and stick with it…..
What next?
You are so far getting fantastic advice…. ditch Apple music as fast as possible…

Play some well recorded Ray Brown or Starker SOLO and look at the RTA and know that EVEN with the super steep filters…that big paper driver….. expletive deleted….
Subwoofer speed is in the room, not the box
Actually distortion specs do lie…. so many fuss over the wrong harmonic and completely ignore…..phase….. Efficiency specs are worse because the + trash counts as…. output… This is why = great sound = engineers w ears = measure ( the right things...

show me the laser scan of the surface of the cone vs the input …. pistonic is as pistonic does….
Subwoofer speed is in the room, not the box
No…. the physics are super clear…. trade efficiency aka trashy output for pistonic motion…

@clio09 no fair, you attended the Roger Modjeski skool of great listening AND Engineering….. Best to you I miss him
