How is it ? that a tuner smokes the table ???
It could be the tubes in the MD. They can give music a more lifelike quality when added to a system.
Cambridge 840c vrs used Cary 303/300
I haven't heard the Cambridge so I can't compare the sound quality of the two players. The advantage of the Cary is that you can do a lot of tuning with it. Tube or solid state output, no upsampling or various rates of upsampling, and tube rolling...
Looking for some 'grass
I agree with your mention of Dolly Parton's and Patty Loveless' albums, good stuff from unlikely sources. One of my favorite bluegrass artists is Laurie Lewis. She is an excellent vocalist and fiddler. She has a plaintive voice that was made for bl...
More convinced of analog than ever
I think it's the snobbish tone of your original post that caused any defensiveness. There are probably more great sounding digital rigs out there than great sounding vinyl rigs even if the absolute best rigs are vinyl. It seems that Lp lovers have...
what is the best Holly Cole CD?
I haven't compared them all but I can recommend her latest "Holly Cole" on Koch Records. Great sound and music.
Need Some Educated Advice...For a Newbie Tuber
I did a quick check and there seems to be a lot of Jolida for sale on Audiogon. My guess would be that people are starting with Jolida gear and then upgrading to other gear.I suggest that you listen to your Jolida for a while and decide if you rea...
Why the Blues Really Hit The Spot
Even more of the great bluesmen and women would have died in poverty and obscurity if the folk music and British blues revivals of the sixties hadn't happened. Even Stevie Ray Vaughan helped put a lot of money into the pockets of aging bluesmen by...
Why the Blues Really Hit The Spot
Some things never change. You can always count on the Blues Police to show up at a discussion like this. To say that no good blues have been played since 1965 is just plain wrong.
Konfounding Kinks
Great great group. Ray Davies is one of the most creative people in rock and has somehow managed to keep his feet on the ground.I saw them on the Soap Opera tour and whether you like the album or not it was a great show. Ray's still going strong o...
Help on choosing a amp for Dali Helikon 400 mk1
I think you've got a lot of options Marcval. It would be hard to go wrong with the gear you've already got, IMHO. I think the Dalis and BAT are considered to be somewhat warm sounding gear, as opposed to neutral or lean, so if you want to keep goi...
Amp inverted or non inverted phase?
If the manual doesn't say it inverts I'd assume it doesn't. Give the manufacturer a call to be sure.
Opinion on Nakamichi azimuth tape decks please
I have a 670ZX and it has Auto Azimuth Alignment, it says so right on the front. It's a very nice deck and unless you're a perfectionist it should do the job. There are still a lot of old Naks around so you should be able to pick up a nice one pret...
The future of Tubes
I think that the low demand for tubes today makes it economically unattractive for manufacturers to spend the money to develop tubes as good as the great NOS preamp tubes. It still could happen though. I imagine there are folks in Russia and China...
Tube Life: 6SN7, 6DJ8, 12AT7 et al.
I have read in threads about tube life that it is unwise to purchase tubes sold as "used, test good" because tubes will test as new for a good part of their lives and then will deteriorate more rapidly as they move down the good scale. I can't ver...
What happened to Plastic CD Cases?
Could someone please tell me how throwing away a plastic case that your cd comes in and buying a "green" alternative saves anything? It seems to me that you are actually using more resources by doing that.
