Charles Lloyd suggestions
If you like the mellower Charles Lloyd, check out Fish Out of Water and Notes From Big Sur.
Another interesting vinly vs CD article
If one prefers vinyl to cd that's great. But please understand that others may not share your preference. Also, there are many albums that sound better on cd than vinyl. So enjoy cd, sacd, vinyl or whatever, but always respect the right of others t...
The Entire Band Gets Writing Credit
The Doors, of course. The songs on their albums prior to Morrison Hotel are credited to The Doors.
Opinions: PASS Aleph 5 with a CJ premier 17LS?
The Premier 17LS will improve on the PV8 in many ways but it will not be as warm or tubey sounding as the PV8 (some people would describe that sound as thick or colored). The 17LS is more neutral sounding (neutral by c-j standards).
Mellencamp on Music Business
Is John going to donate to charity all the money the corrupt and greedy music business made for him? If not, all the righteous indignation rings a little hollow to me.
Emmylou Harris - All I Intended to be - Love this
Emmylou is one of my favorite artists. I generally prefer her pre Wrecking Ball albums. She's been making them since the 70s.For best sound, she put out a 4cd 1 dvd set not too long ago titled Songbird. It's a collection of some of her favorite tr...
Plinius 9100 vs 9200
I own a c-j CA 200 (the integrated mentioned above) and I don't know if it sounds like their tubes but it is a very nice sounding integrated. The one word description that always comes to my mind is "sweet".
How is it ? that a tuner smokes the table ???
It could be the tubes in the MD. They can give music a more lifelike quality when added to a system.
Cambridge 840c vrs used Cary 303/300
I haven't heard the Cambridge so I can't compare the sound quality of the two players. The advantage of the Cary is that you can do a lot of tuning with it. Tube or solid state output, no upsampling or various rates of upsampling, and tube rolling...
Looking for some 'grass
I agree with your mention of Dolly Parton's and Patty Loveless' albums, good stuff from unlikely sources. One of my favorite bluegrass artists is Laurie Lewis. She is an excellent vocalist and fiddler. She has a plaintive voice that was made for bl...
More convinced of analog than ever
I think it's the snobbish tone of your original post that caused any defensiveness. There are probably more great sounding digital rigs out there than great sounding vinyl rigs even if the absolute best rigs are vinyl. It seems that Lp lovers have...
what is the best Holly Cole CD?
I haven't compared them all but I can recommend her latest "Holly Cole" on Koch Records. Great sound and music.
Need Some Educated Advice...For a Newbie Tuber
I did a quick check and there seems to be a lot of Jolida for sale on Audiogon. My guess would be that people are starting with Jolida gear and then upgrading to other gear.I suggest that you listen to your Jolida for a while and decide if you rea...
Why the Blues Really Hit The Spot
Even more of the great bluesmen and women would have died in poverty and obscurity if the folk music and British blues revivals of the sixties hadn't happened. Even Stevie Ray Vaughan helped put a lot of money into the pockets of aging bluesmen by...
Why the Blues Really Hit The Spot
Some things never change. You can always count on the Blues Police to show up at a discussion like this. To say that no good blues have been played since 1965 is just plain wrong.
