Conrard-Johnson CT5 tube rolling?
Hi Vhiner, you are right, I don't think there is a substitute for the 6h30 other than the 6h30-DR which is a premium quality 6h30 that is no longer made. They are for sale here on Audiogon for $280 a pair. I think it would be worth the investment t...
Conrard-Johnson CT5 tube rolling?
c-j likes to say that you cannot find tubes that will make your preamp sound better than those they supply. Some people agree saying that the preamp will sound best with the tubes it was designed to use.My experience with a c-j 17ls2 is that diffe...
Best Keith Jarrett records
What Rockadanny and Marakanetz are referring to is that Keith moans as if he is in pain while he plays. This moaning is more prominent on some recordings and less on others. The moaning keeps me away from most of his albums but obviously other peop...
Live vs. recorded
Hi Niacin, I'm not trying to start an argument. If you read my post I said "Many studio recordings", which means there are also many that haven't been overpolished.Jazz, at least the jazz i listen to, is more likely to have been recorded live in t...
Live vs. recorded
Many studio recordings are over polished. All the humanity has been scrubbed off them. Some of them never had any life, they were recorded in different studios at different times by studio musicians who have never met just doing a job. Some are com...
State of the art CD player? Only if you do this.
State of the Art equipment in any category is only for those with lots of money, a well matched and tuned system, and excellent hearing and listening skills. People for whom a 1% improvement in sound will be worth the many thousands of dollars spe...
The Beatles Mono Box Set or The Beatles Stereo???
I guess they used the term "limited edition" rather loosely in describing the mono box set.
Why do the new 2009 Beatles CDs sound so good?
If you have a well recorded master tape and maintaining the sound quality throughout the manufacturing process is a high priority, cds with excellent sound quality can be produced. Some people will still feel that vinyl sounds better though.Cd tec...
Dali helicons mk I or Polk lsi15 for second syst?
I've never heard the Polks but I like the Helicon 400s. To my ear they are warm and musical, very easy to listen to. Some people feel that the midbass can get a little congested (see Michael Fremer's review of the mk 2s on the Stereophile website)...
Anyone checked out Keith Richards new book?
Keith is one of those guys who doesn't let the truth get in the way of a good story.
PS Audio Bridge: First Impressions
Thanks for the information Edorr. Perhaps over time the sound quality of the bridge will improve as more experience is gained with it. The bridge is still in its infancy.
what is the best, least costly DAC...?
I don't think the dacs being talked about have apodizing or MP filters. I think the PS Audio PerfectWave DAC is the lowest price dac with these filters (but it is not a low price dac). The Perfectwave is a good dac. There are many comments from own...
Tube Buffer Vibration Isolation
Tubes do pick up vibrations and send them through your speakers. There is no doubt about that. This noise is called microphonics. Lightly tap on your buffer and you will probably hear those taps through your speakers. Don't tap on the tubes themse...
Amp or Integrated for Dali MS4
I don't know your listening habits so the INT30A may not have enough power for you. I guess if you're not sure then it probably doesn't. But that's not a problem because there are many good more powerful amps around.Spend some time reading reviews...
Amp or Integrated for Dali MS4
You might want to try a tube preamp with a solid state amp. The combinations are endless. I don't know if you will get the same sound quality that you heard with the big $ amps but you can get very good sound with amplification in the Dali's price...
