Does anyone know where this J. Gordon Holt comes from? If we visited the listening rooms of all the people on Audiogon who say that their systems sound like real instruments in real spaces, I'm pretty sure each system would sound different from the others. Then there is the problem of what does real...
Does anyone know where this J. Gordon Holt comes from? While seeking to reproduce the sound of real instruments in a real space is an admirable goal, I don't think it's practical for most people. If you have a large room, it might be possible to achieve with chamber music (string quartets, etc.) but ...
Does anyone know where this J. Gordon Holt comes from? He founded Stereophile. He died in 2009 at which time he was very bitter about the direction of high-end audio and maybe life in general.
Tidal class-action @audioisnobiggie Why only 2.79, when people have been paying an extra $10 for years? Legal fees.
Tidal class-action @audioguy85 It's much more fun interacting with a physical copy of something. Watching that record spin, or the reels of the cassette spinning in the Nak or Aiwa....I own 5 turntables for a reason....they all do something different and are a jo...
Tidal class-action @audioguy85 never understood why anyone would pay to stream Streaming gives you access to millions of albums. If you add roon, you get links to other music you may be interested in every time you select an album to play. You also get addition...
Ten Years After “Space in Time” 50th Anniversary Re-Mix I just listened to the first track on Qobuz and the Audio Fidelity remaster and I would say the new mix sounds better, but I could live with the AF.

Tidal class-action We get that you don't like MQA, @audioisnobiggie , but why get so excited about who is going to sue whom? None of us will ever see any money from any lawsuit. Calm down a little.
Big orchestral sound in pop, rock etc. The Tedeschi Trucks Band - Especially one they did a couple of years ago - Layla Revisited - Live at Lockn’. Start there and then explore other’s they’ve done. I think you’ll like them. They are the keepers of the flame for the big rock band.
Problem with Roon No, unfortunately. I experience quirks like that from time to time, but I don’t have any advice other than to check the roon forums.
Law Of Diminishing Returns? Over the years, I have replaced gear with more expensive gear a number of times and have always gotten a rewarding improvement in sound quality. I always keep the gear being replaced until I'm sure the new gear is a worthwhile upgrade. I'd bet I ...
Western Electric 12AX7 coming this summer. Sounds great. I hope it works out for the guy. It will be interesting to hear how they sound and see what they cost.
Tubes for a pre stage... matched NEW or unmatched identical NOS? I’ve never seen that option on preamp tubes! Have you? From Backert Labs, who make only preamps: Our Rhythm, Rhumba Extreme, and Rhumba Xphono preamps automatically and continuously adjust the bias that is applied to your tubes, ensuring corre...
Is soundstage DEPTH a myth? The easiest way to discern depth if you’re listening to rock or jazz, IMHO, is to listen to the drums and the vocalist or lead instrument. They are often both located in the center of the soundstage and with a little practice you can hear that the... |
