Linn LP 12 Problem.......
If your Linn's power supply is the Valhalla model, a cap failure sounds familiar. Both my Linn dealer's Valhalla boards crapped out during the speaker demo he was giving me, for the same reason--a capacitor failure.

Thank you for the news of Pat's passing. May he rest in peace, and his loved ones be well and happy.Paul says Pat thought this thread saved him from feeling alone. Well, Pat wasn't the only one. I realize that, through Pat's thread, "Pat's loved o...
Player/Transport best mated with AMC DAC8
My comparison of digital cable length used a 1-meter length versus a 1.5-meter length. The 1.5-meter length was clearly superior, and image clarity and stability was one improvement. If the longest cable in your test was only a meter, you may not ...
Player/Transport best mated with AMC DAC8
I have an AMC DAC8. I run it with a CD8b player using the digital output. I tried the DAC8 with my TEAC T1 transport and it worked fine. I think you could just go for the best transport you can find--you can always upgrade the DAC later. One thing ...

Speakers for Linn Classik? Budget $400-500
With the Classik, I would want something efficient and sweet in the midrange. My Dad uses Triangle Titus ESs with his Classik. They are efficient enough to be used even in a fairly large room. He's very happy with the sound. The ES model might be a...

Records, Wilma victim
I was lucky in our fire this year not to have lost any vinyl. If I had, and the insurance company had offered me a nickel each, I was ready. I would have asked a reputable audio publication to write a letter explaining that the medium is still ali...

Drying sand in the oven- anyone try it?
Thank you Swampwalker. It is always fascinating to have the scoop from one whose moniker knows :o)I take it that Hack's sand, if he were allowed to oven-bake it, probably wouldn't smell as bad as my potting soil did, since it could well be lower i...
Drying sand in the oven- anyone try it?
Hi Jeff... new monitors, eh? I filled my Atlantis stands with dry construction sand from Rona. (Sugarbrie's price quote is about right IIRC.) That was maybe seven years ago and the pillars are still dry inside. I didn't have to bake it. I was glad...
What is your comfort level?
My $1500-per-component limit turned into $1500-per-upgrade... with just one trip, so far, into the territory Uru975 mentions. You have to set limits, I think. They make it much easier to see the difference between something you want and something y...

More jazz: Keith Jarrett's Sun Bear Concerts. If you get the chance, please let us know what you pick up to try, and how you like it.
Meditative Music for Quiet Concentration
I like Arvo Part's Alina on ECM. I also like slow Indian music--not the kind that gets all frenetic at the end. Anything which is called Alap or Alap/Jor should suit. One I especially like is by Zia Mohiuddin Dagar playing the rubra vina. Also, pre...
