help me pick a DAC to go w/ Manley Stingray
I liked my Apogee Mini-DAC a lot better than either the Cambridge DACMagic or the Music Hall 25.2. In both cases I thought the highs were cleaner and the sound was warmer and more dynamic.
Anyone with HD Tracks download experience to share
I got the good results I mentioned above using hardwired connections.

I've had a relatively easy time downloading from HDTracks as well. As John says, their download app is odd, but speed has been excellent. I was especially impressed with the speed on hi-rez when I downloaded at work.
NAD vs. Cambridge for Paradigm Atom speakers?
Two or three years ago I went down to Son Idéal in Montreal to listen and compare entry-level amps and CD players. We'd had a fire and the systems in the bedrooms were going to be replaced.I listened to two Cambridge units, the 540 and 640, and co...
Rotel RCD-1070 replacement
Agree with Rudd--I've observed these symptoms a few times and the problem is probably a worn out laser. If you can get it fixed your machine ought to work fine.
W/ $200 what amp would you buy?
There aren't a whole lot of power amps at that price in the classifieds right now, actually. If it were me I wouldn't do separates at that level, but hey, you're almost there by now, so... the B&K, either of the Adcoms and the Rotel would all ...
Your definition of soundstage
Congrats Beerdraft, I'm really glad you're happy with your setup now.
Next upgrade?
The Mint 'tractor is a great idea but there's a Klyne SK2 phono stage posted for sale right now at under your budget.
Good speakers for a small room?
Very good point from Br3098. My 8x9 room has a disused closet with some absorbent material in it, a couple of treated corners, large drapes in front of door and window walls, shallow bookshelves placed to diffuse sound on one wall and a wool rug o...
Good speakers for a small room?
I have a very small room indeed and I run a pair of Triange Titus ES in it, with a tube integrated. Very good match to amp and room.
Your definition of soundstage
I loved reading Jim's long post. I define soundstage as the sound field that's created when the system plays. Sometimes it's high, wide and deep, sometimes it's low, narrow and shallow. Seems to depends on system components, the recording, power c...
Turntable- Built-In Isolation or Separate Support?
The room's geography requirement includes an outside wall. Outside walls are not sitting directly on the floor and joists so vibrations are not transferred from floor to wall. If your wall is on a concrete floor slab it's a different story. Also a ...
DAC recommendations?
Don't forget the Apogee Mini-DAC at $650 or less used, or $900 and under (used) with USB. Warmer sounding than the Benchmark, better highs than the Music Hall.
Need an " exciting sounding" digital cable
I think the VH Audio cryo Pulsar would qualify as an "exciting" digital cable, and it's reasonably priced. Punchy, smooth, detailed come to mind as adjectives.
DAC question
I do not think you would like the Cambridge if you didn't like the Benchmark--that's if you like resolution. The Benchmark's is better in the mids and highs IME.The Benchmark is cool-sounding, though. My favourite in comparison to both was the Apo...
