Valhalla vs. HMS vs Jena Labs vs. Shunyata Phoeni
I have not compared the HMS and the Phoenix but between the valhalla and Jena's(I compared with the Valkyre) I prefered the Jena's- more natural soundstage and a blacker background were the most noticeable differences. The Jena's seemed to be slig...

Can I quote myself? or is that against the rules :)
Just got a BAT VK1000 ?
Cmach- When the conversion is performed you will have a VK-500w/bat pak. A VK1000 is just a bridged VK-500 the only thing that will be changed is the front panel you will have two power switches on it and the rear panel will have 2 inputs, 2 outpu...
Starting out
Having owned a 9000es it won't take to much from an analog set up to out perform it. The 9000es is ok for the price but is not on the front line of reference quality digital playback. I agree with Twl assesment of about the same price to out perfo...
Just got a BAT VK1000 ?
I have a BAT VK500 w/BAT pak and enjoy it very much, I keep looking at other amps but they don't seem to be better, just different and often at a much higher price. I was tossed up between the X350 and the VK500 and am very happy with the decision...
He said, she said
She: You should have it crossed over at 87hZ not 82hZ and its slightly out of phase(she puts nose yet further upward)- and don't get me started on the timing differences.....
Magnepan MMG
If you have not spent much time with those horrible little binding posts yet, be prepared to- what a pain! Eldartford was exactly right with what works best with them. Magnepan(along with many other companies) do make adapters for spades to be use...
Shipping Speakers, watch out
I agree you can not be careful enough when shipping speakers, last time I sold a pair of full range speakers I paid mail boxes a LOT to ship them. I dropped them off they had to build the crates and guaranty the condition upon delivery, to me it w...
Stacked MMG
This question was just asked at MUG over at the audio asylum, it was just a few days ago. I could be wrong but I don't think anyone had tried it yet(I didn't follow the thread closely), for the cost of MMG's buy them used and give it a shot, if it...
CDP volume, what's best, analogue or digital?
Eldartford- I think he is refering to digital being the likes of Accuphase, Wadia, etc which everyone knows the volume control is done in the digital domain. As were units from the likes of Audio Aero, Resolution Audio, Cary use a volume control e...
Three electrostat choices and my room-- need help
Big maggies are great(I own a pair and they are one of a small hand full of speakers I would ever own) but they are not electrostat's they are planer's- similar in shape(sort of) and have some of the same sound characteristics but that's where the...
Who R U?
Fathom7- Simple guy? 2 kids? I don't see how that is possible! Don't kids make everything an adventure? I don't have any and am not planning for any at this time, but I can only imagine life becomes anything but simple. :) In any case its nice to ...
Can I nominate Sean please ?
I missed this when it was posted the other day! I am honored to be included on "the list" and with out all of the other great people who contribute here I would not have ΒΌ the knowledge of this hobby that I do. I recall my early days here at the '...
Recommendations for Balanced Interconnect...
I think you would be happy with Cardas Golden Reference cables, they are warm but not as warm as the Golden Cross and they are slightly more resolute with more natural(to my ears) midrange. It may be a stretch to find them for your price but as lo...
Amazing Solo Piano Recordings
Just read this whole thread and am shocked no one mentioned Sergei Rachmaninoff A Window in Time Vol I and II, among the BEST piano music I have ever heard. A lot of great recommendations made, and I have some new things to check out, thank to eve...
