Ayre V-1x or Accuphase A-50v for Eidolon Avalons? Go with the V-1x. I have heard it with the Eidolons and was smitten with the music it portrayed. Also, Charles Hansen used to own/design for Avalon before he formed Ayre, so there may be a certain synergy going on here.
Where does that hiss on the master come from? That's analog tape hiss (noise) that you are hearing. It is inherent in the analog recording process and can't be totally removed from a remastering either for analog or digital. It is the noise from the tape transport and electronics that gets "r...

Speaker Cables? Your input kindly requested. I would recommend Discovery Signature speaker cable. I have some for sale that I used in a $50k reference system until I recently changed to Analysis Plus Solo Crystal Oval 8 (the only reasonably priced cable that bettered the Signature).
Preamp reccomendation. If you are able to spend about $625 here on Agon, you can get a FANTASTIC preamp, the Audio Research LS-3 solid-state linestage. I am using one in a $50,000 reference system, it is that good. It will allow you to upgrade your amp and CD player in ...
