I've seen a few concrete enclosures. My thinking has been that the Styrofoam will significantly lighten the concrete while not losing anything in strength. Then I think of stacking different materials... one dampens the next, dampens the next etc....

The problem with mixing a ss pre and tubed amp is input/output impedance... if you find a ratio that works, it is fine... next, over all a tubed amp add much more of the "tube experience" than a tubed pre. If you are after more of the warm tube ex...

Why not just pick up an inexpensive subwoofer... I picked up a Pinnacle for $80... Plays fine down to 35hz... I bet there are several on Craigslist this week, You'll get something decent for $100 or less.

Peter is absolutely correct, maple with a bit of bracing is very non resonant and does a good job... I am actually refinishing the front of my cabinets now in Maple... the problem with maple is that it is tough to stain... that's why you will find...
