Integrated amp -- Pass Labs vs Luxman vs McIntosh If you buy a Coda directly from Coda, they will bias the amp differently if requested. It comes in 3 versions, v1 is 400 watts per channel, v2 is 250 watts per channel and v3 is 150 watts per channel. It is all the same amp, the difference is h...
Amp repair cost — is this right? I didn't see it in here. What is the charge to say. "Do no repair?" I'm not a tech, but I have repaired and rebuilt many amps. This looks like 6 hours or so for me, which makes me think that a tech that is familiar with this model could do it ...
Update on Audiogon Member Almarg Al, I hope that you can read this or that this gets to you..... It is said that the measure of someone is not how well they love, but how they have been loved.... Al, Religion is nearly banished on forums, yet look at the people, one after an...
Altec A7 What to do Not sure that you read the entire thread... I did these around 5 years ago and sorry, I dig into so many speakers that I don't take photo's. As I mentioned in the thread, after the crossovers were built, they had some sort of material poured on t...
Why are there so many wooden speakers? @kenjit I wouldn't mind spending time with you discussing speaker design at some point. Many of your arguments are valid, but if a manufacturer decided to build a no compromise cabinet, very few could afford it. I am grateful for plywood and md...
Tekton speakers with Ribbon / AMT ?? @erik_squires You know Erik, I have given you support in these forums, sometimes when it was not due. Now, I clearly explain the differences in how a Ring Radiator differs in its exact construction and I have to hear this crap from you telling...
Tekton speakers with Ribbon / AMT ?? I've made the argument here many times that an AMT is a version of a ribbon. (Folded, different radiation pattern etc)I make the same argument with a Ring radiator.... It is still a dome. In a traditional dome, the voice coil attaches directly ...
My #@%$ Cat Destroyed My ARC REF 5SE. Soliciting Suggestions. Circuit boards can be repaired, parts on the board can be replaced, If it were mine, I'd give it a try. I realize everyone can't do this . A few years ago I decided to dive in and truly learn about power amps, I've been purchasing old amps, r...
Zaph SR71 kit with concrete baffle You might try mixing Styrofoam balls or vermiculite with your concrete. The right blend will maintain the density quite well and the drop in weight can be dramatic.
Cat-proofing your speakers... Well here you go.... get a cheap dog fence that goes in the collar and shocks the crap out of your cat when they come near..... Its a pain, but after a month or so, they'll never come near your speakers and you can remove the device.
The Audio Alto R101 : A special speaker for SET amplifiers and small acoustic spaces I've looked at this driver a few times, nice, inexpensive and well built. Although this looks like it may be a slight variation on the stock driver. Looks like Audio Alto did a nice job on the cabinets, But to reiterate what Ralph said.... You...
Pioneer Direct Drives - Now and then? Hi Erik, I’ve owned a few old Pioneer tables.... The New PLX-1000 does look excellent and I know one person that has one and loves it. Everyone says that you’ll need to adjust the arm bearings right out of the box. For vintage.... The PL-530 is de...
How to accurately gauge speaker sensitivity to match with tube amp? @hilde45 What part of the country do you live in?
Which one to choose between two 80K$ tube amps? @atmasphere Ralph, you are always too much of a gentleman to recommend your own products. I personally have seen Ralph give very honest opinions of how other products compare to his own. From what I know, the Atma-sphere amps are direct coupled ...
