Buffered CD player?
The only unit that does it as far as I know is the Chord DAC64. I don't know of a one box player that does it.
Death Knell for cd's?
Please send all of your outdated CDs to me immediately! I will make sure that they are disposed of properly, without harm to the environment.
Good Universal Player with Balanced Outs
I think the Teac DV50 has a set of stereo balanced outputs. The Linn Unidisk does also, but it is much more expensive. Why are you stuck on the XLR connections? If you don't have a long cable run, and if all the equipment isn't of a fully balanced...
Preamps/amps that look great and''feel' great ???
The Linn Klimax Kontrol, Ayre and Rowland preamps are the nicest that I've had the opportunity to fondle.
Your expertise, please
I agree, proper setup will aid imaging and soundstaging more than a new set of speaker cables.
Wadia 860 not ressponding to remote...Ideas?
Try programming a learning remote with your Wadia remote. See is it works any better than the stock one. Maybe the signal from the original remote is not a strong as you think. If that doesn't work (and assuming the front panel controls function n...
Budget CDP upgrade: DAC or new CDP?
Of course, one would expect a $1000 stand alone DAC to outperform a relatively one box player in most circumstances. The manufacturer doesn't have to pay for a transport, etc. From what you have stated, I think you might be focusing a little too m...
What does your common sense tell you?
I think that "back and forth" here on Audiogon when trying to buy or sell an item is completely frustrating. I have had to deal with tire kickers on items that I have sold, and I have also lost out on purchases that I wanted to make because the se...
transport for Chord DAC64
My experience with the DAC64 was that it sounded great with anything that I used as a transport. It is at its' best with the maximum (four second) buffer engaged.
Budget CDP upgrade: DAC or new CDP?
This is really a difficult question. In your price range, you have many, many good options. Personally, I was not very impressed with the Musical Fidelity DAC, even though I LOVE my Tri-Vista SACD. If you shop around, you could probably get a Chor...
Best Cabling for Wilson Sophia's
There's another thread going that claims that Wilsons are internally wired with Monster Cable. If it's true, maybe Monster Cable is the correct choice!
preamps that have sub connection ?
Actually, you can use the recording loop in just about any preamp to run your sub.
DVD player used as a CD player good/bad
Actually, many DVD players do a wonderful job of playing CDs. The culprit could be the optical connection or the(probably inferior) DACs in the receiver. Try hooking up the analog outputs of the DVD player to the receiver and see if the sound is m...
Starting a new system...
Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one to have had my head cryo'ed. It really helps me think more rationally, and it also improves inner ear function dramatically!
Reasonably priced, well matched speaker cables
As always, cables are quite system dependent. The DH Labs T14s are nice cables for the money, but my impression is that they are rolled off on top and an little veiled in the midrange/lower treble. Although I'm not a big fan of their interconnects...
