Who designs casework for audio components?
Hey Pbb, I sure wish someone would design some components with the huge tailfins of the early 60's Chryslers and DeSotos. Yeh baby!
Starting a new system...
Now that I've though about it some more, maybe I should pick out some nice tweaks before buying any components.
Besides Spectral, what else do I try........
I think you should also consider the Linn Klimax series preamp and amps if speed and clarity are important to you.
Cables - When Did it All Start?
Most of the science behind high end audio cables was originally pioneered by P.T. Barnam.
Review: Grungebuster CD Mat Herbie's Audio Lab Tweak
I'v tried the Herbie's CD mat as well. In general, I like its' effect on CDs but not SACDs. I haven't tried it with a Bob Dylan CD yet, but if it can make him more intelligible, it would be truly miraculous!

What is your cost for each system category ?
Seriously, I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about the absoulute percentages, but I'd try to make sure that you spend the least on cables. You have far, far less to gain from an expensive cable than from a better component.
Audionet CD/DVD player
Never heard any of their stuff, since it's practically unknown in the U.S. However, rumor is that their products are excellent.

I like to start with the cables, and I think that they should be at least 50% of the total system budget. Every erudite audiophile knows that cables are components, and the electronics and transducers are nothing without them.
Feel vs. Think - take an objective look...
I absolutely agree. I have been continually bothered by the illogical and subjective standards employed by those who review equipment. I think it wouldn't bother me so much if they weren't implying that their procedures were objective, or at least...
Sound Barrier...
You may find some sound absorbing materials that will reduce acoustic reflections from the ceiling, but none of them will be effective enough to appease your upstairs neighbor. For such a purpose, you will need a thicker, structurally decoupled ce...
Linn LP12 - Which one to purchase?
For a variety of reasons I'd go for the table with the Lingo. I was skeptical of the Lingo myself until I upgraded from the Valhalla. The LV III is also supposed to be a better arm than the LV II, essentially the eqivalent of an Ekos I. I have nev...
SACD 2...for those who have not heard
As long as they don't make me use a video monitor to navigate the disk or compromise sonics, they can include as as many pictures on the disk as they like.
Which cables go with what?????
All cables have colorations. You just have to decide which ones sound good to you.
Am I wrong?
You should ask your dealer for some type of loaner when your new unit is down for repair.
