Is 7.1 a reality? Personally, I'm waiting for the new 19.5 recordings. But with all those speakers and subs around, I won't be able to get into the room!
Matching components to Speakers?? I agree, you can use the specs to narrow the choices. Five (or more) identical speakers would be the ideal for surround, but is isn't usually a practical solution. Two speakers is enough for me too!.
Best sub for VA Mahlers It's a virtual guarantee that the salesperson at Tweeter will be clueless! The last one I encountered never heard of Linn, Meridian, Chord or even Arcam! I'm sure some exceptions occur. Buying anything from Tweeter/Ultimate Electronics/similar cha...
SACD/DVD upgrade question... The Unidisk is an interesting possibility, but I can't pin anyone down about where the price will come in. It could be anywhere between $6000 and $9000 from what I have heard. They are supposed to ship in six to eight weeks. I'm hoping that my dea...
Seeking Great Cool Runnin' SS Amp... The new Linn 2250!
Matching components to Speakers?? Choose your speakers and other components by listening, not by specifications! You are far more likely to blow a speaker with an underpowered amp that breaks up at at high volume than with a more powerful amp. Unless you expect to drive the amp at...
May I add a subwoofer to stereo system? You certainly may, and please be my guest to do so;) Your Mezzo Utopias already go pretty low, so you will need to be sure not to go too far with the subwoofers. I've had excellent results with the REL Storm subwoofers in music systems. The Linn S...
Should I go for sub-woofer or new speakers? I'll second the REL subwoofer recommendation. Their subs do well with music and seem to easily integrate into a system. I'm not familiar with the Royd speakers, but when I have used a sub with bookshelf speakers, better results were usually obtain...
looking for a tube integrated I've always liked the E.A.R. integrated when I've heard it. Not U.S., but it is a fairly small company.
Long ic or spkr cable to surrounds? Here we go again...! If you must run a long interconnect, a balanced configuration is preferable. Since speaker output is much greater than line level, there should less loss in a speaker cable than an interconnect over the same distance. Many var...
atabites and/or other speaker fillers All commercially available Lead shot is required by law to be plated with Bismuth. Don't eat any and wash your hands afterward, and there should be no problems. Even if it wasn't plated, elemental lead is poorly absorbed by the body. Lead poisonin...
atabites and/or other speaker fillers Lead shot is the way to go to fill up speaker stands. No worries about magnetic properties. Given the rate that magnetic force diminishes with distance, I doubt that there would a significant interaction between a speaker and it's stand. An exact ...
Speakers that sound like Thiels on steroids. I think you would be very happy with Wilson Benesch Chimeras or perhaps a used pair if Wilson Benesch Bishops. To my ears they are superior to any of the Thiels that I have heard.
Need advice for pre/pro and front end An Anthem AVM 2 or AVM 20 would probably serve your puposes well. I don't own one, but I was impressed with it when I heard a demo.
Advice wanted The NAD phonostage is a small outboard step up preamp for turntables. It's a little larger than a deck of cards and sells new for around $130. I just got one for my Dad's turntable (I bought him a P2 at the same time for his birthday), and I'm rea... |
