Issue Multichannel SACD with 2 Channel Player
You may be uncovering one of the "dirty little secrets" of SACD. Nobody really seems to talk about it. I've found that SACD players are VERY sensitive to quality of manufacture of the disc. I bought "Bring the Family" by John Hiatt and the disc ha...
RCA Living Stereo SACD batch 3
The Mahler 4th is by The CSO with Fritz Reiner conducting. Soprano is Lisa Della Casa. Recorded in 1958. I agree with Texasdave and the Heifetz recording from batch 2 might be my favorite of the bunch. Certainly musically, if not sonically. Right ...
RCA Living Stereo SACD batch 3
The Mahler 4th is now my favorite of the bunch. Absolutely fantastic.
RCA Living Stereo SACD batch 3
I've listened to two more: Brahms & Tchaikovsky Violin Concertos - Heifetz / CSO / Reiner. Excellent, performance and sound. Dynamic and detailed, yet warm and oh so listenable. Rachmaninov / Prokofiev 3rd Piano Concertos - Van Cliburn / CSO ...
New Van Morrison disc
What about "Tupelo Honey"? One of the best, I think.I'm gonna pick up the new one, though. Thanks for the tip.Cheers.
Any chance of Neil Diamond sacds ?
He's playing Chicago tonight. Should I go? I would pick up a couple titles if re-released on SACD. "Taproot Manuscript" and "Serenade" come to mind.
Vacuum State Level 5 SCD-777ES or Krell SACD
I've heard them both. Mod the Sony. Cheers.
MC or MM setting on EAR 834p for high-output MC?
I think the idea behind the high-output MC cartridge is that you can use an MM phono stage. This is desirable because the price difference between a really good MM stage and a really good MC stage is big. My advice would be to switch back and fort...
Chailly Mahler 9th
I'd recommend the Solti CSO recording as a comparison. It would definitely give you two very different looks at this work.Cheers.
Von Schweikert VR2 vs Polk Audio LSi15
Based on the type of music you've indicated that you listen to, I would think the Polk's are a good idea. I favor the Von Schweikert's, but I think they excel over the Polk in tonal accuracy, which isn't such a big deal if you don't listen to a lo...
Reducing room TEMP. when using tube equipment.
Oh, summer in the city! Yesterday it was 102 in Chicago, and 119 in my upstairs loft that houses my tube-based system. Needless to say, I didn't turn the music on last night. Tonight, however, is another story entirely. 85 outside and 93 in the lo...
SACD Firmware issues?
I have had problems with Tommy, as well as with other discs. Sometimes it will begin skipping until it no longer plays. If I unplug the unit and give it a rest, I can then play the disc with no problems. I have 3 SACD players and have observed sim...
What's the "worst" cdp for the money?
Any CD player made before 1995.
what CD player between 1-2K
Rega Planet
DVD-A question
Like Kr4, I'm into classical music, and SACD has the titles. You can find most of the standard repertoire on SACD now. Although I'm still waiting for Bartok's quartets! I consider that to be the most conspicuous absence from available SACD titles ...
