Down graded, with fantastic results
It's too bad you didn't replace the speakers first, and then the amplification components. I would like to have gotten some insight as to which component change caused a greater improvement. Oh well... Enjoy!
VPI Scoutmaster - Rubber Washer
I don't have the stainless steel clamp. Also, I did try removing the washer and the table didn't sound as good. I put it back. It's possible that, after removing the washer, I'll need to recalibrate VTF, VTA, and azimuth, and that is why it didn't...
VPI - HR-X or a SME 20/2A
My only thought right now is that buying an American product will probably give you more table for your money, considering the current state of the dollar. Beyond that, I think you'll be awfully happy with either.
Help educate Analogue rookie
I find that the surface noise and occasional static pops are far easier to listen to than a lifeless CD. I'm glad that SACD has caught on fairly well in the classical genre. I like to listen to classical on SACD, where there won't be any static po...
Dual Disc Problems?
DualDisc is simply a two-sided silver disc with DVD and possible computer content on one side, and (non redbook compliant) CD content on the other. It doesn't play in some CD players because it's thicker than a normal CD.
VPI Scoutmaster - Rubber Washer
Thank you, Cincy Bob. I couldn't find anything on the website in the FAQ section, but then I decided to look at the online manual for the HRX table, which comes standard with the outer clamp. (There is no mention of outer ring clamp issues in the ...
VPI Scoutmaster - Rubber Washer
Well, 2 vote for the rubber washer and 2 vote against. Anyone want to break the tie?Cheers.
Dual Disc Problems?
I have two players, a SONY SCD-XA9000ES and a Music Hall Maverick. The Sony plays DualDisc about half the time. The Maverick doesn't play them at all. I bought 1 DualDisc (Springsteen) and won't be buying any more. Playing a DualDisc shouldn't, as...
Tube amp warm up
I always wait at least 15 minutes.
At Last Bach Really Hits the Spot
With the holidays coming, it seems like the right time to pick up a copy of the Christmas Oratorio. It's a long vocal work, and one of my favorites. There's a version available on SACD, too. If you find yourself liking the Oratorio, then go on and...
300B tube recommendation for SET amp?
The dealer that sold me my SET amp told me to stay away from Electro-Harmonix. On the other hand, their 6922 gold pins are a mainstay in my push-pull amp. I would like to know if the 300B from EH is actually bad. I'd like to think that, if they ca...
Solid state amp for Von Schweikert vr4jr's
Find a Sonic Frontiers Power 2 on the 'Gon. You can probably get one for around 2K. It's a little over your budget, but you shouldn't deny yourself. The V4Jr's are one of the best speakers I've ever heard. Give 'em good juice! If you insist on sol...
A tubes vs. Solid State question.
Absolutely. Atmasphere said it right. I won't use a transistor, but that doesn't make my way right. It just makes me happy. I just hope everyone out there can find the gear that gives them goosebumps and makes them forget about the gear and just d...
Beware of Sony and Rootkits
I own a Sony product and now wish I didn't. Anyone want an SCD-XA9000ES? That's dispicable.
Your Favorite Music Fron N'Awlins?
Buckwheat Zydeco, of course! Pete Fountain, of course! And Dr. John, as already mentioned (of course!).Cheers.
