Review ... Neil Diamond's "12 Songs"
Robbie Robertson invited him to "The Last Waltz". That must count for something. He produced what is Neil's (arguably) best album, "Beautiful Noise". I grew up on Neil. My parents played his records a lot. I actually read this thread yesterday and...
Another sign SACD is dying
Fight the good fight. Borders, Barnes and Noble, and Best Buy will NEVER cater to those who seek quality. The SACD re-masters will come, but from other places. And it will be worth it. Stay the course. Keep your SACD player. There will be plenty t...
Rush fans on the board ??
The quality of their records has declined in recent years, and I'm talking about sound quality, not music quality. They should record to analog tape and digital master and release the record from the analog tape master (as was done in times of old...
Best Blues on CD/SACD?
Hey Wildoats, I think I was at that show. I was sitting at the corner table stage left (right if you're looking at the stage) and I was there with my friend and his girlfriend, who is unbelievably hot. Melvin solo'd in front of her twice, and was ...
A tubes vs. Solid State question.
Well, I think that one should go with gusto after the sound that pleases them the most. I must say that I'm of the "Use a Transistor, Go to Jail" dogma (Thank you, Upscale Audio!"). I've never heard an SACD player that can outperform a good vinyl ...
Request for insight/opinion
I agree to go to the source. First, experiment with DIRECT mode and your current player. If direct mode sounds better now, then you're going to really be happy when you get an ARCAM or other very good player installed. If direct mode sounds worse,...
What 'entrance' music?
"Another Tricky Day" by The Who.
Did I make a mistake buying Krell?
The Krell has way more power than you need, not that there's anything wrong with that. Conventional wisdom says too much watts is better than not enough. If I had your speakers, I'd be looking at SET amps, not solid-state behemoths. I wish my spea...
Popping Sound From TT
What might happen, now that you've grounded the table to the phono amp, is that you will no longer have the big static problem, but you may get a pop when you turn the table motor on and off. I haven't figured out how to fix that one, yet.Cheers.
Popping Sound From TT
If you ground the table to the phono amp / preamp, it should go away. Have you tried this?
Rush fans on the board ??
Hard to pick one. 'Signals', I guess. Actually, I don't think of myself as a Rush fan, since I don't listen to them too much, anymore. Just coincidentally, though, I listened to 'Grace Under Pressure" last night.
The "Stones" USA collection series
I saw that too, and was wondering what it was. It's not even mentioned on the Abkco site.
What 4 or 5 sacds should I have?
Here's a couple: Jazz - Clark Terry "One on One" (Chesky records)Classical - Scheherazade (Rimsky-Korsakov), Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (RCA Living Stereo)Opera - Falstaff (Verdi), Colin Davis and the LSO (LSO Live)Rock - Cap...
SonusFaber & Lamm ?
My experience is the the SF speakers need more power than 18W. I have the SF Grand Piano's. I've run them with a 7 watt SET (didn't work at all), a 55 WPC push-pull (good, but still not enough), and finally a 110 WPC push-pull (just right!). I wis...
NOS tubes for Sonic Frontiers Line 1
I just replaced the 6922's (all 6) in my Power 2 amp. I put EH 6922 Gold Pins in there, to replace Siemens NOS ECC88's. The EH tubes sound a bit darker, but the bass is much better. I miss some of the openness in the midrange and treble with the S...
