Best speakers out there for Midrange and Highs I owned cones until I heard Magnepan Tympani 1a's. Then it was Magnepan, then Quad. Now my system is all Quad ESL - want more bass? Add more ESL's. Trust me - NOTHING beats 32 square feet of crossover-free ESL. Unless it's 48.
Bang for the Buck Right on @asvjerry . As I discovered, after spending too much on inferior products.
Bang for the Buck Tonearm is more important than cartridge. I use Trans-Fi Terminator air bearing tonearms, which I consider the best deal in high end ($1000), competing with any tonearm costing less than a new car.
At what price point do I run into diminishing returns on an MC Cartridge? YES! Set-up, set-up, set-up. Get a first class tonearm which is completely adjustable, and set it up carefully, over a few months.I use two Trans-Fi Terminator air bearing tonearms ($1000 buys the best deal in high end). Easy to set up. Stable. R...
Need advice on new TT NA Mentor (and almost certainly the Dais) also goes very well with the Trans-Fi air bearing tonearm, perhaps the best bargain in high end. Uses standard parts and clever engineering instead of custom machining - keeps the cost down, ~$1K.
Need advice on new TT I have the old Nottingham Analogue Mentor, which is said to be inferior to their new Dais. The NA Dais is near the top of your price range. It is surprisingly close to my DIY air bearing TT. As to the big Technics, I was at the local launch, and th...
Need advice A square room is bad. I would begin with book/record shelves along the wall behind the speakers, then the wall opposing.
Playing mono records properly without breaking the bank - a phono pre-amp question. What Lewm said in the last two sentences. The phenomena is just a little more pronounced if you have a true mono cartridge like Miyajima.
Turntable Advice Needed I suggest that you spend most on the turntable, a third of that on the tonearm, and much less on the cartridge. I did it the other way around, against expert advice, and ended up spending much more than necessary.Thing is, turntables and tonearms ...
Can your system be optimized to sound better for classical or non-classical? I too spend a lot of time with classical (or, at least, serious music of any era). For me, the essence is clarity, tonality, and coherence from bass to treble.Every component in the signal path has a sonic signature, and that most assuredly applie...
Congratulations Atmasphere! Well done, Ralph. And thanks, Al,
Phono cartridge suggestions sought You might want to consider a Miyajima. I have the Zero for mono LP's, and it’s very good, especially for the price.
Has anyone seen this? A really beautiful turntable Mijostyn, thanks for the nod, but beg to differ, although I daresay the big SME is a very fine turntable indeed.@sedond Thank you!
Can you put a Krell in an apartment? Can you put a Krell in an apartment? Depends where you live. Forbidden Planet is the recommended venue.
Has anyone seen this? A really beautiful turntable Quite so, lewm. Stability first. |
