Linear Tracker ...I was wondering I wouldn't be too concerned with the horizontal mass. Theoretically - consider the mechanical advantage of an inclined plane - the record groove. That means 100 microns of lateral motion in each revolution, during which the stylus moves about 70 c...
Linear Tracker ...I was wondering Jag, you might wonder how a $1000 low-production tonearm could compete with a $5000 unit from a big manufacturer. The answer is, "off-the-shelf."The Terminator uses clever engineering instead of gobs of custom machining and pretty plating. Everyth...
Linear Tracker ...I was wondering To Bill’s point about symmetrical stylus wear - a photomicrograph from a scanning electron microscope demonstrated minimal, nearly perfectly symmetrical stylus wear at just under 1000 hours. At Koetsu rebuild costs ... draw your own conclusions.Th...
Checking azimuth with a DMM or scope, please advise I have used electronic devices to adjust azimuth, but they simply don't work as well as my ears. Invest in a good torque screwdriver, though. YMMV
Linear Tracker ...I was wondering I have two Trans-Fi Terminator tonearms. One on a modified Nottingham Analogue Mentor (Dais bearing, aluminum sandwich plinth, and premium power supply), the other a DIY air bearing job using aerospace components. Cartridges are Miyajima Zero and ...
Pass Labs XA-25 on all the time? The only reason to turn off a SS amp is heat. If it gets too hot, the big caps will age prematurely. I use a separate power supply in another room, so it's not a problem. I use the Class A amps as auxiliary space heaters, so it's cost neutral.
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning @antinn Thanks Neil!
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning @antinn Not cheap - how true! But the specs looked good, formulated for plastics, and it was recommended by Fisher, so ... In any case, a better bet than Audio Snake Oil Formula 6 at $99/l. Too bad I didn't know an expert to ask before now.IIRC -...
If I have good local shops available, should I restrict my purchasing? Buy where you shop. As @tvad said.
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning @antinn So good to have a technical conversation free of snake-oil. Thanks!I was wondering about your step 1: a fresh, low concentration bath for each cleaning session. I use 80KHz near the maximum temperature for vinyl (45C), at a 2.5% solution o...

Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning @antinn Hello R/Neil. Thank you for the long response. Much appreciated. My filtration system gets me down to 30ppm of dissolved solids. I use that for rinsing before the distilled bath. Two questions:1) Is 30ppm low enough to use for cleaning? (ha...
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning @antinn Thanks for your expert contribution.@jtimothya What I do to gauge results is clean 50 records to the lower standard, allow chemistry to settle overnight, drain drop by drop, and note (e.g. photograph) the solids deposited on the bottom of ...
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning @antinn Thank you! That explains why power per record a relevant parameter. If I had ever known that, I had forgotten. Just like I had forgotten some of the basics (i.e. how cavitation bubbles form).
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning Machine is a rebranded ElmaSonic P60H (Fisher Scientific). My thinking was that Fisher is a lab supply company, and so the machine would have to pass two levels of QC. Still going strong after 6000 records, plus misc cleaning chores. Works wonders... |
