The best TT system for under 30K
Grunge is mainly on old records - the diamond dust comes from styli now dead. But I clean NEW records as well. Opinion is divided on whether or not new records can be contaminated with mold-release compound or some other liquid residue, but with a ...

Recommended equipment. I use an Elmasonic P60H, sold by Fisher, a prominent laboratory equipment supplier. This endorsement is important, because if lab equipment doesn't meet spec (specification), there is hell to pay, exacted by the biggest heav...
Ultrasonic cleaning before and after
@sgunther  See above.
Ultrasonic cleaning before and after
Not dumb at all. It means that the cleaning chemistry has been purged of air, as it should be. You should see only small ripples on the surface.

@uwiikz, @lalitk About record cleaning, the machine @lalitk recommended looks like a variant on the VPI 16.5. Much better than nothing, but not consistent with your investment in vinyl front end, IMO. I had one of the VPI machines - after cleaning...

You are too kind, @whart . No-one needs to be told how very much the same applies to you.OP, whart has also posted extensively about ultrasonic record cleaning, of which I too am an exponent. Last year I had a photomicrograph taken of my Koetsu, w...

Koetsu - I have the least expensive diamond cantilever cartridge. It is phenomenal: clarity without edge. I've never heard a cartridge close to it.On another thread, a connoisseur of Koetsu cartridges opined that the diamond cantilever option was ...

Consider the Nottingham Analogue offerings, particularly the Dais and the Deco. They favour the Trans-Fi Terminator air bearing tonearm, which is itself a tremendous value. I use a near-Dais standard NA TT with a Terminator TA for mono, with a Miy...

@noble100 You say that an Oppo 205 would do the trick - but can it control volume with the analogue outputs? I ask this because my top end Panasonic 9000 can't - I needed to get a volume control with a remote - so I just caved and bought the best ...

Best type of metal for turntable platform?
If you're dead set on using an aluminum plate for a plinth, then the alloy makes a big difference. Alloy 2024 is recommended by some who have experimented, and the temper does not seem to matter much; all tempers seem to have about the same loss m...
Best type of metal for turntable platform?
Antinn gave you good advice. Constrained layer damping is an important element in most plinth designs - it’s often absent and that’s always obvious. If you want an easy solution, I use Delignit panzerholz B25, which costs about $1000 a sheet. In my...
Life span of silver cables with cotton/air dielectric
The whole point of using cotton as dielectric is to loosely cover the wire, so the main dielectric involved with the signal is air. Tight coverings exhibit dielectric absorption (DA), and teflon is the best solid, but not as good as air.If you tre...
Remarkably better sound possible with just 1 system component change?
Audition - the magic word.Cone speakers are one sound. Electrostatics are another. Magnepans another. Horns another. Go to a high end store and choose what sounds best to you. My personal vote is ESL's, but YMMV.Those who say that room treatment i...
Paralleled Transistors
There was an extensive discussion on Audiogon about a year ago, when the late great Roger Modjeski hosted a thread entitled something like, "Ask an amplifier designer a question."We discussed paralleling and matching transistors at some length.Fur...
