Finally stepping into the hobby after 30 years of watching from the sidelines
Hello Eric.Agree that planars integrate into the room. As to subs, not in my experience - but perhaps that is because of my insufficient expertise.

The trouble with Magneplanars is that they are so damned fast and accurate that they leave subs far behind. The combination blurs the sound from C3 on down. Magneplanars alone are better (and cheaper). IMO.I have had good luck driving Magneplanars...
My final table , hopefully !
I use the Trans-Fi tonearm, the Terminator (don't blame me, I didn't name it). It's an air bearing tonearm for $1000, and punches far above its weight. I have two of them, for expensive turntables. You might also consider the Trans-Fi turntable, wh...

Frogman, those are very good ideas. I have owned planar speakers since I bought two of the first Magneplanar Tympani 1a speakers, December 1973. Talk about "WOW". Everyone agreed. Everyone. The apex for that kind of speaker, IMO, were the Tympani ...
Dac to remove Digital Glare/ edge
I second larry's suggestion. I have an expensive player, and it sounds just plain ugly compared to my analogue gear. But, with isolation transformers on each channel, it is quite listenable, even enjoyable. The trick is to use isolation transformer...

Trans-Fi Salvation TT with magnetic suspension, 20 lb platter and air bearing tone arm, $3300. New. Beat that.

Cottguy, I would be hesitant to buy without hearing. But that does not mean never.I bought an upscale Nottingham unheard, after hearing the Hyperspace and admiring it. I spoke with Tom (then the owner/designer), and upgraded to the Mentor, and hav...

Hello Inna. Yes, I did try theoretically optimal cabling in two controlled experiments, one for interconnect and one for speakers. By 'theoretically optimal' I mean derived from the solutions to Maxwells' Equations, with special care taken of impe...

Can't agree, Inna. Cables connect components - and the internal wiring of components is rarely, if ever, up to the standard of the interconnects. Further, the caps and resistors and inductors in the components are almost always far from ideal.I st...

Cottguy, I think that you are doing it exactly right. Seeking advice and, very cleverly, advice about infrastructure. That's what nobody sees, but everybody hears. Power is usually neglected, yet it is a critical piece of the puzzle, for two reason...
Speakers in the 5-6K$ region & their components
To elaborate on a theme by Dgarretson, why not buy speakers that sound good, and improve the crossovers? Retain the same values, but use better components, especially caps. It’s a rare crossover that can’t be vastly improved for $500 in parts. I di...

Dgarretson - now I understand. Selling high end caps says it all.
The "Digital" listening experience
PTSS has invited discussion, brauser. Any reasons for your opinions?
When will we ever hear turntables demoed fairly?
I would take away another message, Bruce. You can get good sound, but it takes diligence. Beware.Lots of retailers can show you good sound. Some can show you the difference between a cheap system, a good system, and a great system. Small difference...
Audio Desk Systeme RCM - what's been your experience?
Just in case anyone is interested, I use the Elmasonic P60H, and think it to be a highly cost-effective solution for cleaning two records at a time. Furthermore, I defy anyone to get records as clean, without one. I tried cleaning 4 records at a t...
