Headroom? Would have thought 'soul'.

No - municipal tap water comes from a river only 20 (yup, 20) miles long. So it's close to distilled specification. Absent that, I would use RO.
Where do I start-amp or speakers ?
A different perspective - your room could be the real problem. 18x16 is almost square (bad) and a ceiling of 20 makes damn near cubic (very bad). The centre ridge might save you, but I wouldn't count on it.In these circumstances, I would absolutel...

@slaw As you say, this is fun. But no, I didn't put it together - got too much on my plate with my air bearing turntable (working close to the limit, but a quadrature power supply should improve it further) and pre/phono (Version 2.0 with air-gap ...

Rinsing - I just implemented a 3 stage water filter: 25 microns, 1 micron, 0.5 micron carbon block. I clean using a conventional Vinyl Stack spinner. Then I transfer the stack to a high speed Vinyl Stack spinner, located in a sink. Then I rinse th...

What @slaw said. Except I use 5 minutes per rotation. I even did the same experiment.

"Redneck ultrasound..."Around here, we call that DIY, and it is much admired. I use a similar setup. I highly recommend the US spinner from Vinyl Stack - it's a very well made, fairly priced item, made expressly for the purpose. Get a spare handle...

Completely agree with ultrasonic record cleaning. In addition to immediate sonic benefits, it prolongs stylus life. When you upgrade your analogue system, the correct order is turntable (for sonorous sound), tonearm (for repeatable adjustments), st...
TT mats
I use a 1" graphite slab, don’t see how you could call a 1" piece a mat. It damps the 45kg cast iron platter down to dead dull; it sounds just wonderful, alive without undue emphasis.

Looking for the best moving coil cart that is around $5K used
I should also have noted that in the real world of physical measurements, speed is always an average. So speed can be spot in when measured over a few seconds, but nevertheless have huge variation when the average is taken over a few milliseconds....

Well handyman, you say the speed is spot on because the TT is direct drive. I don’t think so.TT generate lots of noise, which means vibration, and speed variation. It is only a question of the spectrum and amplitude of noise. For example, there is...

Looking for the best moving coil cart that is around $5K used
I did a similar thing. I disregarded expert advice, and spent on cartridge, tonearm, and turntable, in that order. It was a mistake on so many levels.First, a TT gives you more bang for the buck. A better TT should give you less noise, less sibila...

I think that an examination of this thread will show you a better way. IMO, US is the best way.I have a record of 60's folk music that looks terrible, grade about 'Good', but that plays NM. That said, I also have a sealed Chopin which is unlistena...
