Thinking out of the box here. It might make some defensive "... inferior wire and inferior resistors and inferior caps and op-amps and engineering courtesy of the accounting department. "
Thinking out of the box here. It might make some defensive @blueranger You write, "I was thinking, that all the different wire constructions and purities is pointless if they are tied to a connecter."BINGO!! Now for the extra distance, I suggest, "I was thinking, that all the different wire constructions ...
ARC REF 3 vs ML 326s I'll take up that challenge, Tattoo. I've cleaned more than half my collection with ultrasonics, about 2500 records. It's the greatest thing since sliced bread - if you play vinyl.
Wide dispersion + high efficiency + detail + coherence in a speaker? For coherence consider ESLs. Like Quads. Not hybrids like ML.
Koetsu Blue Lace Onyx vs. Coralstone @mulveling Forgot to reference you. My phono should be finished in a few weeks (said that months ago!), should be able to give you a tighter range at that point.
Koetsu Blue Lace Onyx vs. Coralstone Loading is record dependent, to me. I like values between 30 and 500 ohms, but having said that, I'm probably going to change my tune when I finish my phono/pre V2.0 (which allows values 10 to 1500).

Record Cleaning Fluid? I use distilled water plus 2.5% VersaClean (Fisher Scientific) for US cleaning. Distilled water is my final rinse. Plain old drug store distilled.
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning @slaw You are most welcome. Do let us know about your next experiment.
Where do I start-amp or speakers ? Michael, did not realize that your ceiling slanted back so dramatically. That may well save the day - but I would still begin with speakers in that situation. Magnepans might be very good indeed - I have run them on everything from '70's mid-fi 10...
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning @phil0618 Thanks for the warning. That would never have occurred to me.
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning @slaw I began with a two stage rinse, spinning the cleaned records in a bath of Brita-purified water, then a bath of distilled water. But I could see bubbles forming in the rinse after only a few records, so changed the rinses more often. Then I t... |
