High Fidelity Cables CT-1designed by Rick Schultz
Ozzy, as so often happens to me on AudioGon, I lost what I had written, so I will jump to the case. I tried several power strips that would allow me to plug directly into the wall plug. The HFC MC-6 proved better than a SR Quantum Line Source that...
I used to think passive preamps were superior to active preamps given right the setup, but
You got to have gain somewhere. I have never found passives anything but boring and with no pace.
Best current footers for preamps?
audioman58, a long time ago I had Sony likepole magnet feet and later a platform from Italy much like what you are talking about. Such devices behave just like springs. The Sonys were best as they did not slide to one side. They were about the size...

Ozzy, I now have eleven MC 0.5s. While I have two dedicated lines to my listening room speaker wall, everything except my turntable is plugged into right dedicated wall plug. I have a HFC MC-6 with six MC 0.5 plugged into it and a CT-1 pc to the w...
Best current footers for preamps?
IMHO, having tried over the years most of what is listed above, I like the Stillpoints Ultra Fives and Ultra Minis and very much the Star Sound Audio Points, especially the new 2.5 larger version. Both maintain the pace of the music, but especiall...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
The SR Black fuses are definitely directional. A friend and I switched the three fuses in the H-Cat X-10 MkIII amp from writing into the amp to all out. The sound was harsh and with no stereo imaging. My friend decided that the two top fuses were ...
Are audiophiles still out of their minds?
dracule1, don't listen  to High Fidelity Cables. Doing so will be hazardous to your pocketbook.
Determining current flow to install "audiophile" fuses.
Wolf_Garcia, you are wasting your time. I took EE cources and took enough more physics courses to get a major. I know physics has not totally mastered natures laws, so you cannot say there is no physical explanation in EE for why fuses would diffe...

ddraudt, I like the image you paint. To continue the car analogy, magnets are like horse power as more greatly increase speed. I know each successive cable series had more magnets. I asked Rick whether there would be enough. He didn't think so. To...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
Someone earlier said that the correct direction with the SR Blacks is counter to the printing. Has anyone else reached that conclusion?Mapman, Wolf_garcia, Geoffkait, thank you for your unsoliced opinions.oregonpapa, I now have the B. M. C. Arcadi...
Bass traps - too many choices!!
rockyboy, a few months ago I was at John Tucker of Exemplar Audio in Everett, Washington. He had a nice sounding system in his listening room with three ceramic rings holding up the speaker wires. After listening a while, I asked if I might do som...
living room as an Audio Laboratory
I have a very large room in one home (15 x 28 x 11) and a very small one in another (13 x 10 x 8). One can only undo such a small room so much. My best solution is a Netherland product call Zilplex. It is eleven little 1/2" hemispheres that sit on...
Has anyone heard the new North American products preamp and amp?
philipwu, I'm glad you tried the MkIII amp. I would strongly recommend that you also get the preamp, although presently it is being done on old chassis. I got the X-10 preamp first and compared it with my old X-9 version. The X-10 is clearly bette...
Bass traps - too many choices!!
I have never found wood or metal cables risers worth a damn. Wood is a fair dielectric and at least in my second floor listening room static electricity is the threat. The best are porcelain and glazed isolators.
what is the problem with too much tracking force?
With modern elliptical diamonds that can respond to high frequencies, it is imperative that the diamond can follow the groove into the tightest cut. To do this properly you need an USB microscope as in Fremer's guide.I always track as lightly as p...
