Is RIAA equalisation enough for Phono Stages?
EMT had a phono stage at the last CES with many choices on equalization of records. One listen to it suggests that you need more than RIAA. It also works for 78s.
Mac Laptop & Sound Cards
Let me add an additional consideration. I have four Macs, with this 1.67 GHz PowerPC G4 with only 1 GB of memory being the most current. A friend uses a HT with two 750 GB drives, one as backup and uses MS music player software to get a AES/EBU in...
Tube amp location
Can you leave the doors open while playing? Since you have efficient speakers, you could use low wattage SETs and the heat should not be a problem. I spend a lot of money on isolation of my amps on special racks between the speakers. Even putting ...
Isolation devices and CDPs
I know I sound like a broken record, but with one exception all dampening and isolating device are springs with some resonant frequency. Some do provide horizontal benefits and others really don't. All this really means is that you choose your poi...
ERS Cloth uses
Psacanli, I think that it reveals that at least in some systems there is an unfortunate side effect given our present capabilities to reduce noise.
What started you on the merry go round?
Don_s comment on the Large Advents is like my own. I had decided to buy a pair but walked in to hear the Infinity ServoStatic Ones playing. Had to have them.
Best Small Speaker System You've ever Heard
The LSA1s ($2500), the new version. I heard them improve each day at the RMAF and bought a pair on Sunday. At this moment I have no place for a second system, but they were so good!
Best CD player money can buy ? MBL, Nagra, Naim?
Vantagechile, I had a Jadis. It is a classic, in my opinion, and looks great, but there are several better transports.
most accurate loudspeakers....
Once in a while, I get the magic of realism. This is a fragile experience affected by the recording, probably the quality of electrical service, and even my sensitivity at the time. I know that speaker positioning, room treatment, breakin, stabili...
The best speaker you ever heard?
Pjl2122, the MBL is incredible in the bass? If I win one in a contest, I will give it to you. I have been interested in the basic idea since I heard a prototype in the 1970s, but I have heard little improvement.
Best sound at RMAF
As, on Audioasylum, I am odd man out. I spent some time in the Pioneer room but only got to hear the TADs, rather than the much better sounding, SX-1s, which were not even at the show. To my ears the TADs always sound slow and wooden.I thought the...
RMAF 2007: Room 449: (Reference 3a) comments
I was there often and agree. It was HP's comments in TAS that drew me there initially. At times I thought they were a little bright.
Best 27' speaker stands?
I thank everyone for their taking the time to help me. I had heard the LSA1s that I am buying at the RMAF on Kosmic Audio stands. John Tucker asked why did I not use them as I liked the speakers on them. I thought he was right.
The best speaker you ever heard?
Fla, as I said I know nothing about the L'Integrals speakers.
Best 27' speaker stands?
Emailist, why so expensive? Brass is not that expensive.
