Aragon D2A...I like it...sorta... I think the D2Amk.II has a beefier (outboard) power supply. There's also a D2A2, that's the latest version. Not sure what the changes were there.IF your d/a is giving more information, then maybe muddy is what's there.
System sounds better at night? check out steve deckert's musings on his site www.decware.com. great stuff, some speculative, about late night listening. it has to do with fewer draws on the power grid from the general public at night; more relaxed state of mind at night?; less ...
Sonus Faber s Integrated Amplifier? heard amati homage with musica at retailer and the sound was great. punchy, fast, dynamic, everything you could ask for (in a short audition)!
What Cables - Cleaner Bass Try DH LAbs silver sonic. Slightly pricey compared to what you're used to but it tightened up the bass in my main system. However: best to fool around with room placement on the sub before spending more $$$...move it slightly aways from the corner...
Preamp DAC for my Thiel 7.2 ML333 A d/a with a healthy output (3 volts +) - I saw an Audio Alchemy DTI Pro + DDE 3.0 combination on sale on audiogon just today, those are pretty darn good products and a bargain at $600 used. Those driving a placette passive preamp (about $1400 in ...
McIntosh - MC 1201 Monoblocks Valuewise, I think one can do a lot better. I just read the Stereophile review and it seems like JScull liked them ok, but basically thought they weren't as resolving as some amps, and could sound bright (tho this could just depend on the recordin...
Sour DOW/NASDAQ to kill digital future? Thanks, Tommart, for the information. I stand somewhat corrected about the technical advance of SACD, however, I was speaking about the general public's possible unwillingness to finance a change of format..prices have to come down and down fast. ...
How did U get into this expensive hobby? Also read High Fidelity and Stereo Review in college, as a way to procrastinate on writing philosophy papers. Same in graduate school. I did not get that master's degree, but I have spent the last four years and over $30,000 spending and tweaking,...
Proac 3.8 Owners I just heard the 3.8s at the Montreal show, powered by Moon amps and MIT wires, in a pretty big room. My impression of the sound was that was powerful but somewhat "dark" sounding, meaning not very crisp and lively, more syrupy. I venture to impli...
Psychological audio, proceed slowly A sort of confusing post. If you want to read something high quality about the psychology behind audiomania, read Markus Sauer in the Jan 2000 Stereophile, there is a part about why certain people get too wrapped up in technology, i.e., they may l...
Top Loading Transport Question I've had that happen and found it correlates with the kind of markings/decoration on the top of the disc (a lot of paint, etc.)..other than the annoying sound, there were no ill effects. The pioneer stable platter avoids the effect altogether I be...
The Lengths You ve Gone Through Unbelievable about the Krell monos and the concrete.I once demoed a pair of ML Aerius from a dealer about a half an hour's drive from my apartment. My 4-dr saab has a foldable back seat, so I assumed the boxed pair would fit, then came to realize ...
Plinius SA-100 vs. Rowland Model 2 Hi,I would stay away from solid state in general, I find it unsatisfying even if the bass is tight, all the details there, etc. If I were you I would try Conrad Johnson tube (inc. their integrated amp), or the Llano hybrid designs, or have Mike El...

Classe preamps I liked the CP 30 I had, built very well, with a full powerful sound. The phono stage was good too. I would go for the newr rather than the older amps. Also consider the integrated CAP-150 or 151, very good value. |
