24/96 upsampling vs. 24/192 upsampling vs. no upsampling?
In short, a CD encoded in 16/44 has no information beyond those bits. Interpolation is not finding something that's there; it's guessing at the existence of something and adding it. 24/96 encoding on the other hand is a real advance, and of course...
What is the best solid state moving coil phono section?
I once read about the FM Acoustics and Sutherland phono amps, real high end stuff. The writer did not compare them to the Vendetta
Why Why why
YBA amps are fantastic, extremely well made and great sound. There is no reason to stay away from them on the used market. I once demoed a 2HCDT and was blown away by the power delivery of this amp especially in the bass...rock solid! That is, if y...
Audio Desk CD Edge Trimmer
This was reviewed briefly along with other cd-enhancing products in audio musings magazine, issue 14, 2001 (web address: audiomusings.com). By a small margin, it was preferred to some of the other products, including auric illuminator and various ...
Mark Levinson 336 vs Pass Labs X350?
The CD player is superb, I would not change that. Look into isolatin/damping for it, as it is somewhat lightweight.I have no input on the amp choices, both are great.
What is the most efficient speaker?
avantgarde acoustic series (uno, duo, trio) but they start at $10,000. I believe the sensitivitiy is above 105dB/watt.
Rega 25 TT is playing slow
You mean it's playing at 16 and 2/3 ?!If the voltage coming out of the wall normal? Are you on hash? Those are my only possible insights. Oh, and make sure the record is designed to play at 33 1/3. Cheers
Best all Canadian system
I have to agree with Jtinn, I heard Tenor and Lammhorn in Montreal and New York and was astounded by the clarity and the realistic protrayal of upright bass on a good recording. In fact, the Tenors appeared in a "dream" system I conjured while try...
Need help on cartridge recommendation, under 500.
I know the "what's missing?" feeling. I have the AT ML 150, same series, great detail, but as MF said in a stereophile review, seems to lack harmonic information. Another direction thatn the AT is the Grado Sonata, richer midrange, satisfying bass...
best used transport 400-700
EAD transports -- viz., the pioneer stable transport mech., like the thetas, no longer manufactured. Great products however. Also I wouldn't expect very large differences in sound based on upgrading the transport a step or two. Cheers.
Balanced or SET Which one is more musical? Need help
borrow a pair of balanced cables from a retailer and try both. that is really the only way to tell: by listening. good luck!
ultimate interconnect recommendations
Is there anything in particular wrong with your Pro Silways? Also I would stick with one brand of cable...trying to optimize each for different frequency spectra seems to me an exercise in frustration!:) Pick a neutral cable and use it throughout,...
Recommendation for stands - Spendor S3/5s
Hi! Save yourself some money and get four standard concrete blocks from home depot or wherever. stack two and that gives you 28 inches. cover the top surface with some kind of soft cloth to protect the speakers, then cover the blocks with a white ...
Analog vs Digital Recordings
Digital recordings are not made from analog tape. That would be AAD or ADD. Digital recordings (DDD) are made directly to digital (hard drive or digital tape). (Of course to put old recordings onto CD, the mastering is done in the digital domain -...
Help -- EAD PM1000 and REL Strata III experience?
I had a hum with my REL Storm and I figured it was because the thin unshielded cable out of the amp into the sub was picking up radio frequencies. If there is a way to shield the cable the answer may be there. I was careful to route the cable away...
