Any merits of getting a Krell FPB 200 C with my existing KRC I doubt you would experience a substantial loss of sound quality with the integrated in place of the separates. However, Krells are not particularly suited to bright speakers in any case, which is possibly why you're not happy with your setup? Som...
Passlabs Aleph 1.2 with CJ Tube 17LS/16LS Preamp You're correct about the impedance issue; it's not a good match electrically. It also depends on how difficult your speakers are to drive; the B&Ws are pretty demanding in this department. With your proposed setup I would expect a lean bass pr...
good jazz piano Eddie Higgins has at least one well recorded disc (I have it but the name escapes me and my CDs are all out of order at the moment), great playing on this.also try Dick Hyman's playing on reference recordings, awesome sound there!
Buying Hi-End CD Player or Transport.. Save yourself some cash and get a used EAD transport to feed the processor. They're cheap on the used market these days and work fine.Take your significant other to Bermuda for a week with the $ you save. But wait til hurricane season is over.
Ideas for audio related jobs in Boulder/Denver? Thanks for the insights folks! Tireguy, sounds like you're speaking from experience and I will keep it in mind.
Arcam FMJ 23/CD92 versus Resolution Audio CD50 I heard the FMJ 23 at the Montreal audio show with Merlin VSMs, tube amps using Plitron transformers, and Gutwire cables and the sound was transcendent, especially while playing HDCD discs. I don't know the CD50. An option at about $1000 used is t...

Harvey Rosenberg R.I.P. Thanks for letting us know.I read "Listener" magazine a few times and got a big kick out what he wrote, and always learned much. Thanks, Harvey, and very sad to hear you are gone.
Mark Levisson 29 or krell ksa 50s Do you need preamp or amp suggestions? I would go for a quality integrated amp with tubes, like VAC's Avatar. I think you will be ultimately disappointed with solid state gear, that is, unless you need a lot of power to drive these speakers in a l...
Gain on Odyssey Stratos Ask Klaus Bunge (email from website)..he's a very knowledgeable and approachable guy.
phono pre / tube or ss why? there's a piece by Steve Deckert on www.decware.com on phono listening that's interesting. He says a tube phono section may be crucial in retaining the illusion of live music coming from a system. Of course, he is soon coming out with a tubed phon...
Is 15W enough to drive Dyn 3.3? If your room is large, you need at least 95dB sensitivity to approach the dynamics of live music with only 15 watts. In a smaller room the sensitivity matters less because of the room reinforcement.Dynaudios have around 87dB sensitivity, and the 3...
Best vibration tweaks dude, do it cheap. cut tennis balls in half and mount your components on them, then, unless you need to keep the top panel clear, put a concrete slab (approx. 8x12 inches) on top. see if it improves the sound. if not then you can spend the bigger ...
Coincident Super Eclipse and amp power keep in mind that an amp rated at 100 into 8 ohms only puts out 50 into 16 ohms, so higher impedance speakers aren't necessarily easier to drive to higher levels. OTL amps however generally put out higher wattage into higher impedances.
MBL 321 Mini Monitor help Haven't heard the MBLs. I recently picked up a pair of Silverline SR-12 minis for $600 used and they fill up a 10+13 room beautifully, you don't really miss the low end. I highly recommend these, they are finished and built very well and biwireabl... |
