Playstion one audiophile stereophile review
Better to go with a new DAC if you really want to see how good redbook can sound, and then you can go beyond with digitizing your collection into lossless files and try high res files and move beyond the whole silver disc thing.
Biggest impact on you?
Forte 5 amp and 40 Preamp. Got them on demo clearance in 1993 and still have them today in a second system. Started my love affair with Nelson Pass gear and high end in general that continues to this day.
Live Performances Gone Awry
Saw The Dead, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty in the Akron Rubber Bowl in 1986, literally days before Jerry went into his infamous "diabetic coma." I am as big a deadhead as anyone, but in response to Lokie above, Jerry DID NOT remember any of the song ly...
Squeezebox Touch Power Supply Issues
I got a coupon like that too. There's also a VIP club or something like that where I got invited and got a 50% off one item. So I got the Touch for 160 bucks shipped! Would have been even better a deal had I ordered a Transporter!
Squeezebox Touch Power Supply Issues
They probably just sent the wrong supply--maybe the one for the older Duet. I have 2 Duets and a Touch in my systems, but haven't compared the connectors to see. The Touch definitely has a different supply than the Duet tho. Their customer service...
Suggestions for current blues guitarists
Jonny Lang, been pro since he was 14 and just turned 30. Great live player from Minnesota. Slays the Les Paul, a really fat sound. I prefer the Strat for blues personally, but he made a believer of me. And, he has a really hot sister who sings in ...
Variations in how your system sounds?
Glad to know I am not the only one with this problem! I agree about any number of objective or subjective variables above that can affect our overall listening experience. Goes to show there are no absolutes in this hobby which keeps it interesting.
Talon khorus vs. Nola Viper iia
The Khorus is a mess of a speaker. No bass, a muffled and distant midrange. Serious phase issues. Everything sounds like a blanket was thrown over them. Have to be cranked to max to sound good and by then you are deaf.
What are the "must have" HD Tracks albums?
The David Grisman stuff is wonderful--extremely well recorded and excellent musicianship.
Can the output of an ARC PH-7 be turned down?
does your Calypso have adjustable gain and is it set at the lowest level? There's an adjustable jumper inside the case. Aesthetix can tell you. Even the low gain was too high for my system so I got rid of it.
The new "Europe '72"
and the complete box set is even better ;-)
What is the Best Phono Pre-Amp Under $750?
Second the GCPH, can find them used here all the time for 500.
Do Von Schweikert VR1 sound as good as Harbeth P3?
The VR1 will work great with your sub. They are easy to place and can go against a wall or on a bookshelf with minimal penalties. They have a very small rear port and do go as low as 45-50 hz, so you can cross your sub at an optimal level and stil...
PASS LABS INT-150 or X-250 with X-1
I own a Bel Canto DAC3, and have owned an X1 pre which I have upgraded to a Pass XP10. I'd characterize the X1 on the cooler side of neutral. If you are looking for more warmth and dynamics, I'd urge you to go to an XP10. It will also add a bit of...
New Music?
Another excellent lp is tedeschi/ trucks band--"Revelator". Has a soulful 70s memphis blues feel and is very well recorded. 2 LP set.
