are we are own worst enemies?
What some of you are missing is the fact that without the internet, most used, high end gear could only be moved by trade-in, unless you live in a major metro area. And you know what dlears give you for a trade!!! The fact that you can expect to g...
What are the best CD-changers?
I can only report that I am very happy with my CAL CL-10 which should be available on the used market for about $700-$800. Very good build quality, quiet, and reliable service. Has a variety of digital outs, including ATT, if you ever want to go t...
combining HT Stereo?
Without a center channel and sub, you may be wasting your time tweaking the HT side of the system. As Dbwl noted, the center channel carries the vast majority of the signal in HT and the sub is critical for the LFE (.1) channel. Can't comment on t...
What Speakers ??
I have been using Vandersteen 2cis for many years, and they have sounded fine as I have upgraded my electronics from entery level high end to mid high end gear. However, I am mostly playing acoustic music at moderate levels. I do like some rock, b...
Best Non Progressive DVD ......
I would second the recommendation on the Elite DV-05 as far as video performance goes. I do not have it in a high quality audio system, so CD performance in unknown.
Definin' the blues (humor)
SD- You da (blues) man!
Tube preamp with remote for 1K used
You might also want to consider BAT VK3i (might be a touch more with the remote). Balanced and single-ended, optional phono, 4 6922 and 2 6v6s, so there would be more $ in tubes, for sure (although these units are suppossedly much easier on tubes ...
Tube fakes, any experts out there?
Justlisten- were they "bulk packaged" in white boxes from a guy in Singapore, bought via ebay. I bought some too, they are labelled Siemens Germany, and come with individual test results labelled on each box. I bought a matched quad and was wonder...
"Ringing from pre-amp
Thanks for the tip, Froggy, I guess all of us swamp creatures need to stick together. FWIW, I swapped channels on the input tubes and the ringing has stopped, even tho the microphonics are still there. I have thought of tube dampers but then I rea...
Will buy Pre-amp today, help please !!
Can't give any info on the CAT, but I love my BAT 3i (which has both balanced and single ended in and out). But the experience I have had with BAT's customer service has been remarkable. I bought mine used and have had to talk to them twice for ad...
component I/C's for HD TV
Soundsgr8- With respect to the former, I do not believe that there is a difference between a component and a digital coax. They are both suppossed to be true 75 ohm cable with RCA terminations. Of course, then you have to filter out the whole cabl...
"Ringing from pre-amp
David- the "ringing" starts off on its own and is almost a feedback like tone although not nearly so high in volume or pitch, nor does in "feed back" on itself in terms of self-perpetuating volume increase. The "microphonics" that I am talking abo...
"Ringing from pre-amp
Well now you've gone way beyond my knowledge of circuitry. Have no idea what an output follower or a buffer is. I can and will try the tap-test as soon as I get some time (pulling out the 16 torx screws from the BAT time after time is a real hassl...
"Ringing from pre-amp
Bob- do you think its one of the signal (EC88) tubes, or could the new signal tubes have overloaded one of the drivers (6v6). I hope its not one of the EC88s; I just bought them from a guy in Singapore and they are marked as matched, tested quad, ...
TT/ cartridge recommendations $1000
Its been a long time since I bought an analog front end, but my past experience was that an upgraded cart. always had a major impact on the sound. Course this was with MM on 70s era AR and Dual TTs.
