Pet Stories
Bmpnyc- My wife and I had a German Shorthair. He used to spend evenings when I was working cuddled up w/my wife on the couch. Then we wanted a new Leather couch. He had long nails and my wife said "he stays off the couch". I said Good Luck. Well h...
Hate to ask......
I also have a modest HT and a somewhat more ambitious 2 channel, in separate rooms. I believe that the idea that HT is killing High End comes from a reasonable belief that the economy only has so much discretionary income and that much of what goe...
Vandersteen 2WQ set-up for Bi-wire?
Just follow the link under the manufacturers section to the Vandersteen site, get the phone or email and ask them. They are very helpful and you probably will get a chance to talk to Richard Vandersteen himself.
Preamp(tube) recomendations
I would second the recommendation on the BATs, assumming that you only need a line level pre-amp, or have an outboard phono. I'm very happy with my VK3i which will accept balanced or single ended and also has both choices for output, as well.
Thanks to a fellow A-gon member
Bluenose- if you like Nanci Griffith, try her "Other Voices" cd, great treatments of other writers. I esp. like Tecumseh Valley by Townes Van Zandt. And Bluenose of some special significance to Nova Scotians, besides the name of the ferry?

And the new one "Ensenada" is quite nice as well. Not so much of the big band sound or the story songs of "Joshua Judges Ruth", but still very tasty indeed.
I found it
Or listen to some music.
BAT VK-3i / BAT VK-30 or Herron VTSP-1A pre amp
Hey Jim, what tubes have you tried in your VK-30. BTW, I got the phono card in OK, but then found that my TT had gotten trashed while in storage in my basement. Now using my "second" TT, a direct drive Denon. The card works fine and BAT was awesom...
Best HDTV tuner
If you review the posts at AVSforums you will find that there appear to be pluses and minuses with all of the available hardware.
new system for beginner
I would chime in on the Vandersteen/CAL combo which would leave you $1K for amplification. You could do a lot worse than a McCormack DNA 0.5 power amp for about $600-$700 and then an Adcom or NAD pre-amp. Of course, that would leave you without ca...
Differents composite and component?
Or just get two more Monsters, matching the one you have and be careful to match up the inputs and the outputs (assumming your video display can accept a component video in, as others have mentioned.
Best Preamp for under $1750.00
I'm happy with my BAT VK3i for <1k line only used, up to about 1500+ w/phono and remote. Uses the ever popular 6922s (4) and 6V6 (2). Awesome customer service.
combining amp and receiver for HT
Definately start with a v. good center but add a sub ASAP.
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
Khawk2- I presently use 2cis (bought new about 10 years ago). I am now considering buying pair of 2w subs or selling 2ci and going to the 3A or 3a Sig. Would love to hear your thoughts on the differences between the 2c and the 3A.
Kudos to several dealers
Richard Vandersteen, that is.
