Audio tip for aging male audiophiles
FWIW, my ears are about the only place I don't have an abundance of the stuff. Even tho I will pass the half century mark this winter, I'm still a hairy guy. However, both my wife and son swear that my overall hearing loss (too much live 60s/70s R...
Happy New Year
Howdy all; just taking a break from football madness. Best to all and especially best luck to you, Scott.
Looking To Buy Wide Screen TV
Tim- If Santa doesn't bring you a lump of coal next year, I will!!! Leaving age out of it (38 is YOUNG, I think; can't quite remember that far back), I don't blame you for liking the Aconda. I have a Loewe Planus 16:9. It outputs at 420P and with ...
600 used speakers?
Not the best for hard rock, but for the more acoustic and vocal side (Bonnie Raitt, some Dead & Clapton, etc.) you'd be hard pressed to go wrong with Vandersteen 2ci or ce, of which you should find plenty here and on ebay at your price point. ...
Happy New Year to AudiogoN and AudiogoN Users
Whatjd- You've said it all. Same to you and all the others. Happy Happy.
Closet audiophiles
I have indeed received personal emails regarding some of my threads. Its fine, but if I understand Tim correctly, his point is that others may benefit from the response, and he is right. However, until I read Paul's post, I didn't think about the ...
HELP No sound from tweeter.
If your sister is prone to listening at very high volumes, it is possible that she "pushed" the amp into clipping and fried the tweeter. This is especially likely to happen with a low power amp pushed too hard (as opposed to too much power).
New Virus starting to run wild
FWIW, my son reports that ME is more stable than Win98 (now that's damning with faint praise if ever I heard it). A local geek I know says Win2000 has NEVER crashed on him. I think its based on WinNT which is supposed to be very stable. Any Albert...
tubes or SS?
Not sure if anyone makes a 5 channel tube amp. It would be enormous and generate LOTS of heat. You could use 5 monoblocks, but that would take up lots of room and require 5 sets of ICs from a pre/processor. You can do something with a HT pass-thru...
New Virus starting to run wild
Thanks Sean. I updated my Norton this am.; do you know if Norton had a fix available then?
Question about cassette player settings
Good point about the equalization settings being named for and optimized to, Nak tape formulations. If the bias and equalization cannot be tweaked from the front panel like some of the better vintage 3 head decks (both my Aiwa and my NAD can), the...
Any audio gifts for Christmas?
I got and gave lots of software. We got my brother in law an entry level DVD. I've been treating myself to lots of hardware over the last few months and my wife is intimidated about getting me anything. OTOH, she got me an awesome 4.1 mp Sony digi...
....expanding from car audio into home...need help
To Sean's recommendation on Yamaha and Denon, I would add NAD (try yama.com for good prices on B stock and closeouts). And if you want a 1 box, moderate cost unit you will be looking for a receiver, which has an FM tuner, a pre-amp/surround proces...
2 channel home theatre?
You betcha, that'll work just fine and probably a good low cost solution for kids video.
Question about cassette player settings
Jim is partially correct. The EQ or equalization is set for 70 for chrome and metal tapes, and 120 for conventional tape, as I recall. The bias is some Nak proprietary coding, but is probably EX for conventional, SX for chrome and ZX for metal. I'...
