looking for ideas on a tube pre amp
Jeff- I think you probably cannot go wrong with an Atma-sphere product.  Ralph Karsten provides customer service that is unequalled.  Do your amps have balanced connections?  The Atma pre-amps only have balanced outputs.
Structural beam in middle of listening room
If it were me, the column right in front of my face would be a psychological non-starter. I'm no acoustician, but diffraction effects would seem to me to be more significant on direct sound rather than reflected from the rear wall.  OTOH, if you p...
Manley Chinook
Seems to me this is the price of admission for buying over the net vs. from a B&M store.  Sounds like you are paying one way shipping and they are covering the return.  It sucks that the unit is not right, but that's the world we live in now. ...
Raidho speaker owners, what solid state amplifier do you use?
If you have $50K, they sounded pretty awesome w top of line VAC tube amps in NYC a couple of years ago.
Structural beam in middle of listening room
jferr0- Not trying to be a fuss-budget, but is it a beam (horizontal) or a column (vertical).  Obviously, two very different situations.
Speakers VERY close to wall - Cork board useful?
+1 to all advice from Duke (audiokinesis)+1 to stacked the Clue speakers.  They soundedfantastic when placed within an inch or two of the wall at the NY show a few years ago.
Aragon 8008ST needs work and I'm hoping to find a good repair shop in the Boston MA area
+1 to Approved Audio Service in Bantam, CT.  About an hour SE of Albany. Also Electronic Service Labs in Wethersfield, CT, just outside of Hartford.
Tidal streaming needle-drops?
LOL
Tidal streaming needle-drops?
I was listening to an mp3 streamed to my M00s listening in near field.  So it was definitely in my face.  I'll try to get a flac copy and listen on my main rig.
Tidal streaming needle-drops?
Thanks, guys.  Boy did I find that distracting.  But it did take me back to "the day" of dinged up LPs.  Of course, back then neither my system nor my brain was that resolving ;-)dbtom2- I'm not enamored with all of her song choices but her voice ...
Audio Research Ref Phono 2SE owners - having hum problems with LOMC/Koetsu Any ideas?
KAB gain calculator says you only need 64 dB gain, your MC phono has 74 dB so insufficient gain should not be an issue. Assuming you have the cart feeding the MC input on the ARC, I don’t see why you need to have the volume set so high, unless you...
Need advice on adding subs
If you are going used, a pair of Vandy 2WQs would be a bit under your budget.  They are fast, tight and would match well with your speakers since they have a first order crossover as well.  When I had a pair, I set them up just like marktomars.  D...
Low volume on turntable??
Hey, Hickey-That's great.  Using a good cartridge protractor will help your set-up.  Unless the new cart is the same as the old one, that setup is not likely to be close to optimum. Even if it was the same, fractions of a mm can make a big differe...
My Cartridge needs a new Stylus
It will most likely sound different, but unless someone has direct experience, I'm not sure if anyone could predict if it would be an improvement or not.
Low volume on turntable??
Hockey- If you look in the manual for the Sony on page 50 you will see instructions for recording.  Follow those but where it says tape recorder or tape machine, think "any analog (RCA) input on the Cary".  You will need to set the Sony to the pho...
