How often do you folks vacuum clean your albums?
Schipo- If you think the Kirby is good, you should "hear" my cryo-d Electrolux with a mylar belt and the full battery mod ;~)
That Elusive Pre-amp bargain....?
For 2 channel at about $1k, it would be hard to do much better than a BAT VK3i w/remote, and it also has an HT bypass function as well as a good remote. It accepts and outputs single ended and balanced.
Incorporating Sub into two channel stereo
The record out is fixed level and will be a royal PITA to set the sub level manually for each listening session. Any sub that has a high level (speaker) input will work.
finalists in the big speaker search
Bob's advice is good, but cannot be implemented for under $2K, I don't think. Another possibility that can just make it under that # is VAndersteen 2CE sigs and a 2WQ sub. Not suitable for headbangers but good on jazz and milder rock. Or maybe the...
Music for toddlers and parents?
One word of warning- the Night on Bald Mountain and Sorcerer's Apprentice segments on Fantasia scared the !@@##$% out of my 3 y.o. 16 years later, he still won't watch Fantasia.
Herron VTSP 2 or First Sound PreAmps
I'm going to agree that the LL2 is probably very system dependent; I heard in one system that I was not familiar with and couldn't get out of the room fast enough; in another it was OK, but clearly outclassed by Aesthetix Calypso (and 2 other much...
do i need a second amp for my speakers?
You need an ACTIVE crossover or other level matching device unless the gain of the two amps is identical. Otherwise either the highs or the lows will be at a higher volume than the other. Some would also argue that you should physically separate t...
do i need a second amp for my speakers?
If you horizontally bi-amp (one amp for woofs, one for tweets) with anything other than an amp with the same gain (not necessarily same output power) you will need an active crossover or other level matching device.
Tandberg 3012 Integrated w/ Innersound ISIS ESLs
In general minimum impedence is more important that nominal. According to Soundstage review its impedance dips to a low 2 ohms in the high frequencies and could, therefore, present something of a problem for low-powered tube amplifiers and solid-s...
Need Speakers at least 4 feet high
Excellent. Talk about a win-win!
Video Question: Plazma or LCD???
Plasma better (IMO), but LCD closing the gap. Better blacks and better motion on plasma. LCD cheaper. YMMV.
Best small signal tube for a preamp?
e\Each of those tube types, their variants and diff manufacturers will have a different sound. Try looking at Joe's Tube Lore over at Audio Asylum for description of each. FWIW, Joe does not like the sound of almost any 12AT7.
I need new music....
Tift Merritt, Lyle Lovett, Keb Mo, Eddie From Ohio, Trio (Parton/Harris/Ronstadt), Susan Tedeschi, Buddy Miller. Definitely Eva Cassady. Marc Cohn.
Zerodust, or similar stylus cleaners
As long as you are gentle, its fine. Just "cue" the stylus into the goo and then raise it up a few times, while moving the goo slightly btwn dips. Also search for the thread on the Magic Eraser here on this site.
Graham Phantom vs Triplaner
FWIW, I've never heard the Phantom, but I can assure you that a fully tweaked Tri-P with a Universe cart does not induce listener fatigue and I would never characterize it as bright, harsh, or analytical, when used with a world class phono stage. ...
