Any difference between compilations and originals?
Possibly...They could be remixed. No way to tell unless you buy and compare to the original.I've even seen compiliations where certain songs were live versions, or later second recordings, not the original studio hit.
Whats the best used tuner for under 1000
Well you will need to worry about adjacent channel rejection, if the stations you want are outside the big city.I like the vintage analog tuners by Kenwood, Sansui and others. The best place to get information on them is at.. The Tuner Information...
Can any CDP with coaxial out used as transport?
An "analogue" "coaxial" output?? No such thing. A CD player coaxial output is an RCA digital output. Yes, your NAD player will be fine.
Can B&W Nautilus accept spades? Or Bananas only?
They can take spades or bananas. Your dealer might be clueless. What he may not know is that I believe they take 5/8 inch spades which is the European standard. The typical 1/2 inch spade is too narrow unless you bend them out.He may have tried to ...
boyfriend is getting on my way
I generally (not always) find woman and men have different taste in what is good sound, so stick with what you like and trust your own ears.
Solid-state preamp with tube power amp
Bill Thalmann of Music Techology and a former engineer at Conrad Johnson uses a Motif MC-10 solid state preamp with a CJ Premier tube amp. The MC-10 is similar to the CJ PFR.He is very happy with this combination.
Line level or speaker level, scientific reasons? ?
Just an FYI...what Elevick describes is NOT how a REL is setup or how it works. It is parallel to the main speakers and is self powered. It takes nothing from the amp, but the signal; just like the sub getting the signal from a second pre-out.
Beethoven Symphony No. 7
Well I guess I will be the spoiler by saying the Kleiber 7th is worth gettting because you get the excellent 5th with it. It is good, but taken alone it would not be my first choice. Not a well known 7th is the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Jose...
Line level or speaker level, scientific reasons? ?
It really depends a lot on your brand of subwoofer. If a REL ST series subwoofer is used for 2 channel music; then the high pass speaker connection is by far the best way to go. There is no scientific explanation. This is how REL designed it to wo...
Speakers with outboard cross-overs?
No longer made, but the B&W Signature Series 25 and 30 had external crossovers. I see mint pairs appear occassionally on eBay. Spearit Sound had a pair for sale recently. Not sure if they still have them?
Cryo treated wires?
Cyro treating is like everything else in this hobby. It will change the sound of your system compared to non-cyro'd wires. This change had been beneficial to many, but not for everyone who has tried it. Getting more or less of something from the c...
Tube myths Joint Army Navy vs Non Joint Army Navy
I honestly have never thought that certain tubes sounded better than others, solely because they were the military versions. There are just some types of tubes where the military versions just happen to sound the better. Others do not.I was never ...
Tube myths Joint Army Navy vs Non Joint Army Navy
I'll ask my mom and try to post later. She was a utility operator in a Sylvania tube plant in Pennsylvania from 1943 to 1957. As a utility operator she could do all the production jobs along the various assembly lines; and was responsible for trai...

Tips needed for best FM reception
Yes the rotor is a good idea for some. I just happen to live in an area where most of the good stations are north. Being south of Washington DC puts that metro area and Baltimore's metro area in almost a straight line.
