Let's forget about being politically correct Engineer Bill Thalmann of Music Technology and formally Conrad Johnson uses a solid state preamp with a tube amp.At the just concluded Montreal Audio Show, Gilbert Yeung of Blue Circle was showing off a prototype solid state preamp he may put on t...
what CDs are most in need of remastering? Every classical music recording on CD by Deutche Grammophon needs remastering. It is weird that their classical LP's were some of the best, and now their CD's are some of the worst.
Sonic differences between Conrad Johnson preamps The PV-5, PV-8, PV-11 and PV-12 are all similar in design. The higher number model replaced the one before it. You will notice the front face layout and look is about the same on all four models. The solid state PF-2 has a sonic signature that is s...
Does it matter where a CD is manufactured? We are discussing ordinary, everyday, off the shelf CD's, not some special edition that in many cases are made for audiophiles. So what you say we will notice with the import CD's compared to domestic CD's is "blow away". I am not familiar with the...
What is a NOS 6SN7 tube with these tube testers?? What I did find earlier on Tube Asylum that 100% for a 6SN7 on a Triplett tester is 3000. Nothing else.
What is a NOS 6SN7 tube with these tube testers?? Thanks Albert I'll look around there. I've been to tube asylum. Their threads are disorganized, and a search no matter how detailed gets hundreds of hits in no particular order.
why go against REL setup recommendation? Once I get a subwoofer properly integrated for 2 channel audio it will actually sound good placed almost anywhere in the room, simply because I can't listen to the just the subwoofer. It is blended perfectly into the music. It does not call attent...
why go against REL setup recommendation? Generally speaking, I find it interesting when people say the subwoofer "sounds better" here or there. A properly integrated subwoofer for 2 channel audio is sonically invisible. It should not call attention to itself. The specific recommendation ...
Does it matter where a CD is manufactured? There is no difference to my knowledge as long as they use the same master source material, they should perform the same. Most CD's are manufactured in the local country/region. It cost too much to ship and import CD's for what they sell for. It c...
Good under 200watt stereo amp for under $800 I've seen the original Blue Circle BC22 sell used for around $800 since they introduced the Mk2 version. It is rated at 125 watts which may be enough power???In addtion to the MF200 you may also find the newer Conrad Johnson MF2200 (also 200 watts).
why go against REL setup recommendation? Best to start in the corner, since REL recommends it, even if it does not work in the end. If it does work as intended, the corner is also usually good from a standpoint that the sub is out of the way of the system and other things in your room. P...
why go against REL setup recommendation? Whatever.....It is not my assertion; it is REL and Sumiko's. I did say there will alway be a room it does not work (and so do they). It is more a case of folks (not Sean) who never even try the corner, because they have already been brainwashed to...
why go against REL setup recommendation? A REL ST series sub is not a conventional subwoofer; it is a "sub bass system". Many that talk against corner placement are speaking in general. I believe the REL/Sumiko instructions start out by saying to forget all you've ever learned about subw...
Tubes or Cables to Tune Sound? Not to change the subject, but if a neutral cable is a cable that stays the same; since we cannot hear the system without cables; if someone is using a lousy cable, a neutral cable is one equally lousy.
Tubes or Cables to Tune Sound? Tubes will have a larger effect on the sound, and as Newbee sais, you can buy lots of different tubes for a lot less than cables. Not really sure what a neutral cable is, since it is impossible to hear the system without cables. |
