I think it's OK that Mari Luna doesn't serve alcohol. That shouldn't be our top priority on our organizational meeting. There will be plenty of opportunity for beer and wine at subsequent meetings.Besides, I've been wanting Mexican for a while now...
Baltimore MD
I can also do Thursday Sep 8 (but not the 9th). I'm leaning towards Mari Luna from people's descriptions. Any objections?Michael
Baltimore MD
I think that WHERE we meet is less important than that we DO meet. Reisterstown is fine. Since I don't know any restaurants in Reisterstown (I live in Baltimore), does anyone know of a place there where several people could get together and chat? ...
Baltimore MD
Great idea. This is what I've been waiting for. I live in Baltimore city. I could have some people over to my place for beer and snacks to get things started (I'll have to check my schedule and see when I could do this). Or, as mentioned previousl...
Which preamp to buy?
With your equipment, you probably need a preamp that warms the sound a little (particularly for Jazz).I would suggest a Cary SLP-88, available well under your price limit. Another option would be a Rougue 66.Michael
Best Speaker New or Used under $1.5K
It would help if we had a little more information to go on. Do you want to replace all 5 speakers for $1500? What is wrong with the Paradigm Studio 20's you have right now (they're good speakers for the price)? What change are you looking for in t...
Totem "Hawks" vs. Audio Physic Tempo III
I can't comment on the Tempo III, but I own the original Audio Physic Tempo's (I'm assuming they're similar), and I'm very familiar with the Totem Hawks. Both are excellent speakers. The Tempo's have better neutrality and transparency, very good ba...
help building a new system on a budget...
Hello,If you want to go with tubes, you'll have limited choices for your budget. You'll need both a preamp and an amp unless you choose an integrated amp, which has both the preamp and amp in one chassis. You'll save money by going with the integr...
Salem, Va
I just moved out of the Roanoke/Salem area and the thing that I will miss most is Down to Earth Audio (and Larry and Debbie, of course). That is the greatest honor I can give any audio shop.I will occasionally make the 300 mile journey now to see ...
Totem "Hawk" vs Totem "Arro" speakers
Both are excellent speakers. The decision is based on your sonic preference and budget. The Hawks have a fuller midrange and more bass. However, they are somewhat less forgiving with placement and don't image quite as well as the littel Arro's.The ...
Home Grown Audio Cables
I have the Silver Lace interconnects and they are the most transparent I've ever used. I love them.I can't speak for their other products, but the Silver Lace is excellent for the price if transparency is your goal. They also have good resale valu...
Which hard drive for digital music server?
I've been very partial to Seagate drives as well, and I'd suggest using the Baracuda 7200rpm SATA drives. Western Digital also makes good drives. I use Seagates in most of the computers I build for friends and they've always commented on how quick...
What is the Meadowlark house sound?
Like Joe, I was unimpressed with the smaller Meadowlarks (like the Swifts) which sounded flat and unengaging. The Osprey's are where things get interesting; I've heard them with Cary tube amps and as I recall they lean somewhat to the rich/warm si...
Best Integrated All-tube Amp?
I do think you are being a little too picky in your requirements. I would suggest broadening your search and then audition some of them; you might be surprised of the results and how they might conflict with your prejudices.I own an Audio Valve As...
