Why not use a PC style UPS?
Computer UPS's aren't designed for high current transients (such as you would get from an amplifier). That's why you don't connect laser printers to a UPS. It might actually damage the UPS.Michael
CDP W/ Digital input
Why not just get a separate transport and DAC? I think that would afford you much more flexibility in the future.Michael
CD Player recomendations $400-$600 ?
It depends on your listening preference, but if your speakers are laid back, then you might prefer to have a CD player on the detailed and slightly bright side. The best all-around CD player in that price range in my opinion is the Music Hall CD-25...
Good workout music for baby boomers
I'm half the age of a baby boomer, but I've given this topic some thought before so I'll chime in. I find high-energy rock or classical works best for me. Nickelback, Staind, Ozzy Osbourn and Vertical Horizon come to mind. Also the Top Gun soundtr...
Quietest amp you ever owned ?
Innersound ESL 300. It's just dead quiet.Michael
Adjusting output voltage on CAL Alpha ?
The answer to your question is yes, the output can be adjusted internally. The Alpha comes with various resistors that you can use to replace two of the resistors in the DAC to provide outputs of 2v or 1v I believe. I can look up the exact resisto...
Who else prefers 5751s and why?
Yes, I have some Sylvania 5751's in my DAC and the improvement was definitely noticeable.Michael
CAL dac compatibility?
To answer the first part of your question, yes, you can use other players as a transport. The Alpha accepts balanced, coaxial, and Toslink (and some also do AT&T glass optical) digital inputs. Simply hook the digital out on your Denon 2900 to ...
Audio Physics ...Bright or forward?
Which Audio Physic speakers did you listen to? I own the Tempo (original Tempo). They are on the neutral (rather than full) side with extended highs, but I certainly would not say bright. Maybe a little forward, but that depends on upstream electr...
Totem Hawks/Forests - Upstream Components
In response to the above post, my answers are:1) The Jolida 302b pairs well with the Hawk, less so with the Forest. (I have heard the Forests sound best with Totem's own integrated amp.) No, the 302b cannot be used as a preamp. But you can sell it...
Jolida 302B/502B?
Hi,The 302b is one of the better tube amps I've heard for the money. (Indeed, I own one.) I know a dealer whose opinions I trust who says that the 502b really doesn't sound any better than the 302b. (I haven't heard the 502b myself.)So if you've h...
Are there any pre-amps with optical inputs?
Why not just get an external DAC or processor? Then you could use any preamp.I know the Music Hall Mambo has a built-in DAC and I believe it has optical inputs (I know it has a coaxial input). But it is an integrated amp, and I'm not sure if it ha...
The last 5 ?????
I've thought about this, too, and agree that many things in life are perceived logarithmically, and that this is likely one of them. However, I think it's more complicated than that. I believe that most audiophiles actually respond more to the chan...
What is AFAIK?
AFAIK = a forgery, not genuineMichael
JoLida 502b suitable for computer stereo system?
The only integrated amp I know of with a built-in DAC is the Music Hall. It should actually mate very well with the Totems, if you insist on having a built-in DAC. (The Music Hall Mambo sounds outstanding; very good for the price, especially when ...
