Speakers along short or long wall
Hmmm.... I'd start with the rule of thirds for both axes to get a good estimation of the total differences. Then maybe tighten up the long wall geometry to the same as the short wall one to further isolate just the ROOM difference...in other words...
How do you get to listen to high end speakers?
Sounds like this dealer will be retiring soon! There's only so much self foot-shooting a business can take. The few remaining dealers up around here in Boston are only to glad to provide high-rez system demos. Maybe this particular dealer has enoug...
Material Specifications/Layout for AC line
Nice job. The THHN will take a while to "burn in", so exercise it for a few months....
What's your favorite lyric from a song?
Now that Ellen and I are restarting our diets, I played for dinner guests on our 18th anniversary yesterday the "TOO FAT POLKA" (1942, Ross Mac Lean & Arthur Richardson) from a piece of piano sheet music I received in an odd lot...."Here's a s...
Nordost Blue Heaven to SPM Reference
I agree that the RD sounds great, and still use it in the less fussy pre-to-monos XLRs. But the SPM simply removed the psychoacoustic transient "edge" that imparted a slight articiality to the presentation. The SPM simply sounds more natural (less...
Should power cords have filters on them?
Fine caps across the hot and neutral can help, without veiling or dynamic limitations. I use good ones in my PoBoxes, for example, but not on PCs per se.
Speaker cable testing
That figures! After subscribing for many years I finally gave up due to this pastiche's recent schitzophrenic redesign and they come up with an article I want to read!
enough watts to drive these speakers? Help?
Think of it as surface area. As the distance doubles the surface area quadruples...equal to -6dB/unit surface area.I didn't read anyone's reminder that sensitivity values are usually expressed at 1k, which can be far less meaningful unless one kno...
Nordost Blue Heaven to SPM Reference
I'm in agreement that the SPM improved both the ultimate bass output AND removed a transient edginess existing in the Red Dawn. The extra bass didn't surprise me as the SPMs are larger. The cleaner top octaves was a treat. Yet I bought the SPMs at...
Solid Core vs. Stranded Copper PCs for Amps
More important are the differences in inslation, conductor geometry and sometimes content (AWG size).
Verity Sarastro?
Huh? 88dB/w, ultra-fast, and NEVER fatiguing...I think I'll keep my Encores.
"Power hungry" speakers
Ah Sean, I still love ya!
"Power hungry" speakers
Dazzdax, to get back to your question....Driver manufacturers have to balance efficiency, durability, linearity, smoothness, and frequency response, at least, to provide an excellent driver. Limiting factors is smaller two-ways are almost always t...
ProAc Response 1SC vs. Revel M20
The Revels are more linear in spectral tilt and thus require more attention to sidewalls, room dampening, etc. They're VERY carefully cloned, so imaging can be spectacular. The ProAcs are fun, and a bit more forgiving.I like the M20s better in a h...
Don't lie....Do you hoard vinyl?
Ellen is already in a divesting mode, since her momn died last fall, having already pretty much cleaned house. So it's getting harder and harder for this packrat to hide stuff. Last year I got proficient at collecting and restoring antique fountai...
