ProAc Response 1SC vs. Revel M20
The Revels are more linear in spectral tilt and thus require more attention to sidewalls, room dampening, etc. They're VERY carefully cloned, so imaging can be spectacular. The ProAcs are fun, and a bit more forgiving.I like the M20s better in a h...
Don't lie....Do you hoard vinyl?
Ellen is already in a divesting mode, since her momn died last fall, having already pretty much cleaned house. So it's getting harder and harder for this packrat to hide stuff. Last year I got proficient at collecting and restoring antique fountai...
The Great Cryo'd Outlet Test
I remember once back at Brown in the 70s a friend of mine and I tricked a third friend into thinking he'd dropped acid with us. For an entire day he simply tripped alongside. We didn't own up to it until much later; he could NOT be convinced that ...
power generators, filers, et al
I suggest that you keep it simple with dedicated line(s), good duplexes, and linear PCs, and THEN see if you need to spend $$ on regeneration. (Disclaimer: I sell the cheap stuff.) Happy Holidays to all.
The Stones, retire or re-invent themselves?
I thought Keith reinvented himself via blood transfusions periodically! Sigh....
Current Trends in multi thousand dollar speakers
Sean, you're right, but there's that hint of condescension in your post that just doesn't feel right to me, as I've always been an advocate of FFR, for example, and AM a musician, for example. But I won't belabor this....Pbb, I agree too, but must...
Un-equal length speaker cable advice??
It's a function of speaker impedence and cable electrical properties. If your speakers have a nice high impedence they'll be more resistant to asymmetrical cabling, especially if they're electrical characteristics (LCR) are low, like bigger Nordos...

Dedicated Line, Surge and Safety
Shopsmartjazz, The Belden 83000 Series cables can be bought in 100'+ spools from a couple of industrial/commercial suppliers. I do just that, "cure" the Teflon insulations with my EST process, then chop them into custom lengths to resell to you gu...
Current Trends in multi thousand dollar speakers
Sean, I DID read Dickason a decade ago, and contributed to the design of a couple of vented 2 ways with two pro designers. We ended up with a VERY fast and tight 2 way with a 35Hz vent. Was supposed to be an OE for Roland Digital Pianos, but never...
OT Seeking new job in Charlotte NC area
Let me know if you need a nice 2BR apt. My daughter's leaving Charlotte early summer, as she's unfortunately stuck in retail managing an Abercrombie & Fitch; learning to really hate the clientele and the whole conspicuous-consumption ethos aro...
Dedicated Line, Surge and Safety
Rex, the longer the loop distance between the dirtier digital onto its ac line to the analog preamp's input the lower the expected noise floor....Gs5556, nice post. So why does the 10AWG sound better? It's TOTAL inductance is actually higher than ...
The Great Cryo'd Outlet Test
Interesting, El. But then why don't STRINGS sound different after cryo? As well, my Steinway took TWO years for the stretchier Swedish strings to stabilize, requiring tuning every couple of months. Now, after 4 years, it's held a tune for 13 month...
definition please
PRaT is a term originally used mostly by the Brits to differentiate toe-tapping from low-bass "slogging".
Speakers for extremely close listening
The KEF UniQs are an obvious choice, despite some midrange roughness.
