Speaker opinions for my setup, pls? Exactly. When you get the room properly carpeted and furnished you'll be able to listen to it and then demo speakers that synergize well with it and your listening position. Otherwise you risk being market-sloppy. Pay attention to sidewalls re sof...
Carmina Burana - I need a good CD I like the Shaw/Atlanta over the more recent Blomstedt/SF, but my favorite is actually a small-scale chamber version with 2 pianos fron Sweden...let's see...BIS CD-734 Kroumata Percussion Ensemble & The Uppsala Choir School Children's Choir. E...
Is Sennheiser 600/650 an overkill ? 600s for $200. Just get 'em! Their comfort level is worth it, even though your source isn't.
Canare cables in Canada Markertek is a fine source. My entire HT system is cabled with 4s11
Speaker opinions for my setup, pls? Huh? First things first: get speakers that match your ROOM and your taste.
Cryoing of audio equipment There's a huge thread on this. My experience is that the insulative materials' dielectric potentials need burn-in, or "curing", rather than deep-freezing the metal conductors.
Adcom GFP-750 and Goldpoint attenuator Yes, the Aleph P has "true" balanced inputs and outputs, and nifty separate gain and "volume" controls for max S/N within your system's sensitivity (gain) level.
JC-1 - is there a stereo version? Bob...you still cookin'? How about another "fun" picture-loaded email? I'm a bachelor this weekend...Ern
which monitor isn't lacking in the bass dept.? I use Spendor S3/1p (6.5" 2way) for my HT system specifically because they're much more efficient and have far superior bass to the otherwise fine S3 or LS3/5a...also mate perfectly with the spendor SC3 center speaker, which is basically a double-...
Warm sounding cables - non fatiguing Gotta agree with Red (how are you?). I use SPM for absolute linearity and speed, dialing in room acoustics and component choice for preferred spectral tilt. Only sideways step was to use a HT Truthlink to soften my MD100 tuner of a few birdies up ...
Are your systems more Plato or Aristotle? Shubertmaniac, I'm with ya, as I've been overdosing on playing a lot of Schumann on my piana lately, and do miss the "there" there of Schubert. But "historicity"? I'm afraid you let me down with that one....
Adcom GFP-750 and Goldpoint attenuator Probably easier to sell the 750 and get the "real" version of the circuit as made by Nelson himself: AlephP, which uses an optical switching of a relay-driven silver resistor ladder for gain and attenuation.
i hate to ask but I Really Need Help Bravo, Sean!
Please read and help me That Adcom 750 will NOT be lush and laid back. I have the "real" AlephP version, and "linear and transparent" is its raison d'etre. You need something much warmer for all that 70s dirty top octaves stuff. |
