@acman3  Thanks for continuing to enhance our enjoyment of Jazz!   I've only seen Taylor live and that was in a quartet with Frank Vignola, Peppino D'Agostino and Vinnie Raniolo.
Favorite Tribute Albums?
@ezwind  Don’t believe anyone has mentioned the Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert recording.    I liked this one especially: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_dHVf4KH1I   I have to say, though, that as a rule I find the Tribute genre pretty u...

@tablejockey  I'm no expert on the fine points of interviewing but I've always felt Beato does a very good job. After all, he's asking questions about topics I'm interested in, so he doesn't need to try to charm me as well.   This interview with...

@jafant  Thanks for asking. Yes; I did finally track down the sibilance to an unexpected source -- cement pavers I had under my Target stands. An easy fix and what a relief!  I’d also had a fatigue issue that I traced to my (Burr-Brown) Aqua DAC...

@hilde45  My sense is that Dias is likely suffering from some mental ailment and this was the best approach to get something with him on tape before he declines further. Just a guess, but something seems "off" about him. My perception as well....

@wharfy  That trio is incredible.  Yes, indeed. A killer performance. Glad you’re enjoying it!   I’d never encountered Wakenius before hearing this recording. I enjoy his playing here as much as NHOP’s.     @jafant  when was Freddie not o...

Interesting. Having watched many Beato interviews, I came away with a very different impression. I enjoy Dias’ playing w/ Steely Dan but thought this was an incredibly awkward and ultimately quite boring interview.  I don’t know whether Dias is j...

Critical listening and altered states
@mahgister  Oh, my aging brain!  ;o/ I didn't intend to post such an incomplete (and possible cryptic) message.  What I mean to to ask was whether you view "sweetness of tone" as inherent to the violin and regard any stridency as an artifact of...

@mahgister  RE: Estate, I love this tune!
Critical listening and altered states
@mahgister  On my K340 it is celestial syrup of the most ethereal kind...Like a set of  colors distillation at the limit of the visible spectrum flowing and flying ...
Critical listening and altered states
@newton_john  Even just listening to music for some people is sufficient to induce altered states of consciousness. No stimulants are needed. Sure. Perhaps I misunderstand, but it seems to me, this would be evident to most here. Isn’t this, af...
Critical listening and altered states
@hilde45  I guess what it boils down to is simply the fact that I'm not experienced in utilizing substances in precise doses to achieve what you describe; hence my difficulty grasping your meaning. I don't know to whom you were referring in term...
Critical listening and altered states
@newton_john  @hilde45  specifically connects altered states with evaluation of sonics, rather than "relaxation". Your characterization of absorption would seem to suggest these are incompatible.  This is what I don’t understand. I certainly can...
For Those Who Are Unaware of The Cable Company
@eltabor  I have no experience with them. I started out with Audio Art, about 15 years ago, as they were very affordable, offered a return policy and the owner Rob Fritz is one of the nicest guys I've encountered in the business.  At a certain p...
