Your last concert was to see who and when?
The Cookers, a couple years ago. I couldn't ignore a chance to see/hear Billy Harper again. Unfortunately, they were louder than most Rock bands I've heard and I had to retreat to the lobby for most of the performance.I spoke to the soundman and h...
Is today’s contemporary music lacking?
@articdeth:" 2000 til now, music is trash, all garbage"I disagree. There is still a lot of excellent music being made but don't expect to hear it on the radio. You have to look for it. If you don't bother to look, how can you justifiably complain?
Is today’s contemporary music lacking?
"The music industry is just that… an industry. They produce formula driven music to make money/profit. It’s been that way since the music industry started"Of course, AND, the industry used to be run by people who actually cared about music and wer...

Is improvisational jazz to impressionism art as smooth jazz is to realism art?
@oregonpapa:I agree with Garcia's assessment that Rap is a spoken-work form, not music-- simply because it fails to include melody and harmony in addition to rhythm. As such, it can be powerful but I don't much relate to its content/cultural conte...

@jrosemd:Yes, I've had Fleur Carnivore in my collection, before.  I'm not a big Zappa fan but I do enjoy G. Wazoo.I've heard Age of Steam but not Walk. Will look into it. Thanks for the suggestions!
Is improvisational jazz to impressionism art as smooth jazz is to realism art?
@mijostyn:"It is not an issue to argue about, like art there are an infinite number of ways to interpret it" Well, I'd disagree just a bit. My BA is in studio art and in school, I became quite used to evaluating artwork in terms of how skillfully...
Is improvisational jazz to impressionism art as smooth jazz is to realism art?
@rja:"Questionable analogies"Indeed-- perhaps that's why the OP posed it as a question.
Jazz Fans-- Name some of your favorite, less well known recordings
@ho249:I'll look into the Mingus and Bley (if they're available on CD). I have the Kenny Wheeler, along with three others. I bought the Pepper Adams years ago but the CD sound was terrible so I didn't keep it. The CTI Joe Farrell albums are not my...
