Dylan's Time Out of Mind remix is Stunning
@jollytinker "It’s a work of art (no?) about aging and losing touch. About existential darkness creeping in as you get closer to some reckoning". I can’t argue with the above. But for me, the power lies in the lyrics, song structures and the m...
What to listen for?
@ghdprentice  "It completely depends on what you are after. For me, it is the musical / emotional experience" Same here.  @simonmoon  "So, it may not be about hearing the chair squeak itself, but what that sort of detail tells you about the th...
Dylan's Time Out of Mind remix is Stunning
@tylermunns  "I consider the sound of Time Out of Mind to be the best part of the album".     And I consider the best parts to be the compositions and the musicianship. It would appear we approach music-listening from profoundly different persp...
Dylan's Time Out of Mind remix is Stunning
@bdp24  "I don’t know what Lanois had in mind, but he clearly got carried away, taking it too far" +1
How much does a DAC do the more expensive it is?
You might consider swapping out the oppo for a transport such as Jay's or pro-ject first.  Seems to me it makes more sense to ensure you're extracting as much data from disc's as possible before moving to a more expensive DAC.
RIP David Lindley
@tablejockey  You and me, both... I saw Lindley 3 times-- twice on his own and once with El Rayo X.  Never managed to catch J. Beck live.
RIP David Lindley
Well, this sucks.
Why do we stop listening to new music as we get older?
My major period of exploration was from about age 25 through 45, focused on Jazz. Since then, the new music I've enjoyed has pretty much all been Americana/New grass.   However, I seem to be finding less and less new music enjoyable. I once rega...
Jarrett interview from a week ago
I hadn't been aware of the extent of Jarrett's frailty. I enjoy Beato's passion
Ray Charles - "Rap is not music"
This again? Criticizing other's esthetic preferences is not likely to result in a change in said preferences. And trying to justify one's subjective taste with objective arguments only adds fuel to the fire.  What a waste of energy...       ...
What to listen for?
I don’t go out of my way to focus on such details-- it's not "what I listen for" -- but whatever floats your boat...
Beatles vs. Stones
Depends on my mood. Most often played on my system are The White Album, Abbey Road, Let It Be, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile. A much easier question to answer would be who I favor between Paul and John. I prefer John. Don't ask me to ...
Opinion: Modern country is the worst musical genre of all time
@bdp24  Have you read R. Crowell's autobiography?
Opinion: Modern country is the worst musical genre of all time
"It's always been a mentorship thing for me" ... before the advent of the internet, obviously... Now, it's easier than ever to explore unfamiliar musical territory.
How do you stop house guest from damaging your speakers?
@bwang29  "Do I tell guests not to physically touch the speakers?" Frankly, I'm astonished that anyone would behave this way. Any non audiophile guests we have usually ignore the system altogether -- it's so foreign to them, they tend to comple...
