How important is the tonearm? This is a question like what's more important...the preamp or amp. In my experience I have found that given arms with the same general ranking, the cartridge makes the greater difference than does the tonearm.
Benfits of upgraded connectors I wonder what Elizabeth finds so funny. It has been my experience that the connectors are a significant contributor to the sound of the cable. Again, as I have said before in other posts, you must try all cable in YOUR system to evaluate its worth...
Maple platform under turntable, How thick? I am extremely happy with bearpaws at VermontAudio.com. This was a huge upgrade for my table.
Tonearm cable for VPI Scout JMW9 arm I use Anti-Cables from the VPI to the preamp. They offered to make me a double shielded version because they said that the regular single shielded version might pick up some rfi. I compared the doubly shielded version to the stock version, and the...
Why do subs sound bloated or slow? You shouldn't really "hear" the sub. If you do, they are too LOUD!!!
new interconnects I"m using an all Ayre system with Vandersteen 5A's. I am very happy with Anti-Cables after trying lots of others. Cardas was the worst.
Why the obsession with the lowest octave Its fundamental
Settling on a cartridge? VPI guys-question? Benz and Dyna work very well with the VPI arm. The more you pay, the better the cartridge. If your prepre is not top tier, get more output from the cartridge.
VPI Classic Motor Lubrication Dordevic...Perhaps that Magic Lube I mentioned IS lithium grease...I don't know. I use Magic Lube on the bearing of my Superscoutmaster Rim Drive with great results. Use the lighter oil...the damping fluid, or the Mobil 1 on the shaft of the platt...
stepped attenuators The Ayre V1xe has one as well. I believe that the unit was discontinued because it was so complicated and expensive to build. It is hand built with silver contacts, belted, and motorized...very accurate.
VPI Classic Motor Lubrication Get some of VPI's magic lube...it comes in a hypodermic looking injector gizmo. If there is any old crud on the bearing when you remove the platter, get rid of it with a towel. Put just a bit of that magic lube on the tip of the bearing. Put some ...
Revel Salon vs Vandersteen 5A Sure the best thing is to listen to both, but chances are you'll like the Vandersteens better in your home. The dealer will use the many controls in the back to adjust your speaker for your room. Also, because the Vandersteens have their own bass ...
Turntable leveling... Actually leveling with 4 IS much harder than with 3. Three is the most stable...with 4 you must make sure that there is sufficient weight on all 4 "feet" and that none is just hanging. It makes me wonder why manufacturers do 4 feet instead of 3
Front port vs Rear port ..and then there's the ol" bottom port...
Need recommendations on speaker cables Before you spend a boatload of cash check out the inexpensive ones such as Anti-Cables or Marrow, etc. Oft times, they sound better than the high priced spread. All the inexpensive cable companys have a money back policy... |
