Are my ears just fooling me?
How picky are you? First what is your idea of a sax... Yamahas sound way different than old Selmers..for that matter new Selmers sound way different than old Selmers. Silver instruments sound different than brass.... different mouthpieces make eac...
Ayon Triton the best tubes amp in the market?
Rediculous
Avalon toe-in?
It all depends on the room. Try straight ahead first, and hear what that's like, then slightly toe them and find out if you like that sound...more depth, but less width. Some rooms even favor toeing out. Experiment..the only way to know.
balanced vs. unbalanced sound quality
It has been my experience that if a component is designed properly balanced, it will yield better performance...lower noise floor, etc. There are some components that have XLR outputs and claimed balanced operation, but they are "posers" and are r...
Avalon Acoustics vs Wilson Audio
Of the 2, Avalon gets my vote, but I came home with Vandersteens...much more musical to me.
Good Clamp for VPI HW-19?
What could be wrong with the stainless VPI clamp. I'm using it and find it fine....I doubt if there is a "best" one with any significant difference. Perhaps if you A/B the tone might change slightly, but neither one would be better than another.
Audioquest colorado sound to bright
Gshepardbuster...isn't it odd that Audioquest cables have to break in when they claim that their battery supply does that very thing...
Upgrade suggestions
If your preamp is the Ayre K1, it probably has a phono preamp in it...line 2, but maybe not indicated. If it doesn't, you can get Ayre to put one in...I don't know the cost, but it is a fabulous phono stage.
High resolution Copper IC with PRAT like AntiCable
What a hobby this is. People are seriously posting the inability of Anti-Cables to produce frequency extremes. Can cable be THAT system dependent? In my house, my speakers effortlessly can shake the foundation of this place...with no sense of stra...
does a subwoofer kill stereo sound?
Martykl...Actually, I hear it quite differently. If you have a system that can accurately reproduce the lowest frequencies accurately (I am not commenting on your system) you will clearly hear low end pitch differentiation on those very powerful l...
does a subwoofer kill stereo sound?
Ohjoy40...I respectfully disagree with your comment. The bass that comes from a sub IS perceived as mono..whether stereo recorded or not. Bass is non=directional. What makes it seem like stereo, are the overtones, not the 30 or 40 cycle fundamenta...
does a subwoofer kill stereo sound?
One of the best things you can do is add a powered sub or subs to a system. If done correctly, it frees up the amp to power the mids and highs adding much better performance.
Speakers that excel at depth/layering/space
I am a Vandersteen guy as well, however, I must add that your room has to support all the good stuff. I dare say that the room can easily destroy a large percentage of the goodness that the best speaker can deliver...even Vandersteens
VPI Classic and new cartridge - which one?
I like the Ortofon and the Dyna as well, however, the Classic tends to be a bit "light" and therefore I think the Benz LP should also be on your short list. I think that the Benz with its lush midrange and powerful lows would be just the thing you...
Has anyone used Benz cartridge demagnetizer
Something's happening... Perhaps the connecting cable is being demagnetized??
