Audio Research Ref 3 Preamp + Mcintosh Mc501's
The only way to be assured of match perfection is to get the components from the same manufacturer. I found that this gives a synergy that few if any combo might have.
Does anyone know someone who can modify Mesa Baron
I suggest you keep the amp for sentimental value without modifying it in any way. It will never be the same amp again..you would be moding it so that it in fact wont be.
VPI Classic - Now you have one......
The Grado is unshielded and will hum in the classic and also in a Rega. Its really a cartridge issue, that's picking up motor hum. If there is a way out of it, Harry will find it.
Thiel 3.7
Cardas was the very worst cable I have used with my Ayre stuff. Try something else to discover what's there.
Vandersteen 5?
Aewhistory...you must have pissed him off somehow. I have found him very pleasant and helpful.
Unhappy with tubes so which transistor amp?
I too have had problems with my ARC gear....The sound is top notch from ARC, but is likewise top notch with Ayre gear. I've never had a problem with my stuff...it just functions without any problems at all.
VPI Scout to Michell Orbe SE
Gundam91 Making statements that the VPI arms are terrible puts you in a position of being either a liar, or grossly misinformed. The VPI arms are a bit of a challenge to set up correctly, but if the directions are closely followed, the performance...
Tannoy VS Dynaudio
Its your money and your ears...go with your favorites. Don't care what anyone says pro or con.
Vandersteen 5?
The 5's are very nice indeed. To check to hear if the sub amp is working, plug it in and you should hear a low pitched "Woomp". There are batteries in the attached silver boxes, and in the crossovers themselves, but are inexpensive (though a pain ...
Ortofon MC A90 cartridge
..sounds like there is a lot of interest in the A90. I'm sure in a few months, other manufacturers will build cartridges using the A90 techniques. It drives one nuts trying to stay at the cutting edge....
What's First, Interconnects or Speaker?
Speakers are first...then get the proper amp to drive them, etc.
Is this clipping?
Be very careful to keep your amp under control. When you allow it to clip, you can and will damage your speakers. If you just hear a flattening of soundstage, etc....it could very well be the recording...one way to find out is to make the system s...
Different arm for VPI Scoutmaster
I have a Superscout rim drive and changed from the 9 inch Valhalla to the 10.5i. I use the Benz Ebony LP in both. The difference was very slight indeed. The longer arm may even be a bit more fussy to handle, however, when you get used to it, it's ...
Different arm for VPI Scoutmaster
Why would you want to do that??
component cones/spikes vs. rubber
They all sound different....not better or worse. Also the materials that they are crafted from affects the overall performance. Brass sounds different than steel, etc. You have to hear it in place in your system to determine what is best for you.
